How many of you have gone back to school, or just gone to school later in life? Even though I wanted to, I wasn't able to go directly after high school. I'm only 25, but I've managed to get myself pretty established financially and have worked my way up into a management position but I feel like having a degree to match my experience would really open me up to more opportunities. Anyone have any experience with all of this?

I work at a university and there are tons of 'nontraditional' students...I have some clients that are in their 50's and are going to school...others that are in their late 20's and early 30's that served in the military and are now going back...and some that are like you...If you want to go, and feel like you have the time, and the return on investment is worth it, then go. I went to school to learn my trade when I was 38, almost 39. I'm glad I did.

You should do a little research in your field. Does a 4 year degree help or do you need a masters degree to make a difference. If you get a 4 year degree and all it does is put you on the same level as your competitors, you should think about it. At some point, not sure where that is, successful experience starts to trump education. it is a tough call with lots of variables. Good luck.

Do it. Especially while you're younger.
I'm 37 and am considering it myself. Spanish and bachelor in Supply Chain Management. Not sure how it will be possible between work, kids, and the outdoors. The company I work for would pay for it comes with a catch.

went back in 08 after I blew out the knee (work comp paid for re-education). in my case I went for construction management/inspection, after 30 yrs in the business it amazed me that most large companies would not even talk to me without a "degree" on the wall.
be ready for a huge time commitment, strange schedules of classes, expenses like books and supplies and liberal morons in class that have not a clue of what the real world is.
I went to OSU in OKIECITY and had a good time, even got to assist in teaching a couple of classes when the instructor realized I knew more than he did (really good guy but was pretty much a fill in due to lack of instructors in electrical and bldg const. he was an inspector for OKC plumbing dept.)

The older students always got more out of the class than the younger students. If I could go back to college, I would take a ton of history classes and get another degree in some type of wildlife biology/management. It's crazy how your interests change after you've worked in the field related to your major.

I'm currently back in school at 37. I currently have no degree but have a well paying career. Haven't learned a damn thing that's useful in any class I've taken but society puts a stigma on having a piece of expensive paper as meaning you know how to a job better than the next person.

After high school I did a semester of community college but didn't wanna be there at the time and was lazy and failed. I'm 24 now and have been working the same job at a wealth management firm since then and hate it so I've been back in school for about a year now to work towards a job/degree I enjoy. Although I can only take 2 or 3 classes a semester at the moment due to work. The plan is to finish my basics at HCC then transfer to SFA to finish my bachelors. I'm fortunate to have my parents helping me out with tuition and what not. I guess the point of my post is you're not alone. If it will really benefit you do it, especially while you're still young-ish. They say it just gets harder to do the older you get.

Obviously, it's your call. You, or others can always make an argument that it may not help. But, I don't think I have heard anyone claim that it will make things worse. Do some research. The career field matters. But, look at the average earnings of folks with degrees versus folks without. (Yes, I know there are always examples of someone with a sixth grade education becoming a millionaire, but that's the exception,).

I wish I had more real world experience before I went to school and chose a major. I do get to use my degree and for that I am greatful, but there is a lot to be said for going to school a little later in life.
