If only have $300, how to choose a rod and a reel for bass fishing? Which is more important?

You will get a lot of opinions on that. Now days rods and reels are specialized in what they are designed to do. If you don't have a specific purpose for it like cranking, Carolina rig, etc and looking for one all around rod and reel combo something in medium action 6'6" or 7' would work. Heck you can buy some nice combos for $150. You can get two nice combos for $300.
If you are looking to add a nice rod and reel to your collection a Duckett Ghost with a Lews Speed Spool would fit the bill nicely.
If it ain't yours don't mess with it! Need a friendly place to talk hunting? www.talkhunting.com

I like pairing a dobyns fury with a curado or lews. Can be done for about 250-275 full retail

$200 on the rod, $100 on the reel. The rod's functionality is more important to me.

A very reputable reel fixer recommends Okuma reels all the time. My wife bought one just like the one in the picture and is delighted with it. Previously she only fished with Shimano Stradics.
