I've tried plenty of rods for drop shotting (Quantum Smoke, Berkley Lightning, Megabass Orochi, Loomis GL2, Kistler KLX and Z-Bone), and the Loomis NRX is my favorite. Agree with Zach that it's based on your budget, but I'd also add that it depends on how important the technique is to you. I fish Fork more than any other lake. It's important to me that my drop shot rod be really good and the NRX is very sensitive and lightweight. Sensitivity is probably the most important thing to me about a drop shot rod, because fish don't always come up and knock the slack out of the line when you're using a drop shot. My NRX broke this Spring and the Loomis replacement/warranty program was top notch, so I can vouch for that also.

Sometimes a medium light, sometimes medium, and sometimes medium heavy... Depends on where and how I'm fishing the drop shot. Not just a light line finesse application.

I had Ron at Reel Time Rods build me a 6'9" casting rod medium action from a Bushido blank. It is light and very sensitive. His shop is located at Pope's Landing at Lake Fork.

I use a Reel Time custom Dropshot Rod. Can't argue about the NRX though.

I use a G. Loomis NRX 902S JWR spinning rod. I love this rod and it's hard to beat the sensitivity.

My favorite also is one made by Ron @ Reel Time rods. My wife and I have two each in a baitcaster. He also uses the same blank if you are wanting a spinning rod. They are a fantastic drop shot rod, great tip action. That tip alerts you to even the slightest bite.

At Reel Time Rods you are encouraged to take any of the rods out and fish with them to make sure they meet you're needs. If they don't there is no pressure to buy.

I'd like a new one too. I have had the NRX....don't know why, but I didn't like it. I now have a Compre by Shimano. It was matched to a Stradic. I gave the Stradic to an Eskimo back in June while in Canada and have been scratching my own head on that one ever since. The Compre is now paired to a $20 spinning reel from bass pro. I use drop shot a lot. And now I think my next big buy is gonna be a top end drop shot setup.
Does reeltime rods offer a way to buy and see the rods without driving to east Texas?
