Need some recommendations for a good ultra light spinning reel. The Mitchell I have on my ugly stick that I paid $49 for at BP has a defect. When you reel it the spool goes too low causing the line to wrap around the top of the spool where the drag knob is....yes above the actual spool! If you aren't looking for it next thing you know you have a tangled up mess.

I love to use my ultra light for crappie, blue gill, and trout. Anyone know of a good reel in that $50 range?

If you can spare the extra 7.68 then you could pick one of these up. I have the SX model and really like the feel of the reel and has given zero issues.... Abu Garcia Orra2 S Spinning Reel. Walmart has them for 57.68

Thanks for the tip. I don't mind paying more for quality. I just hate jacking with a cheap spinning reel, especially an ultra light.

I just can't get used to the upside down reel and left hand cranking. I tried, I really tried. Even built a nice custom rod. Ended up giving that rig away. Sorry guys I roll with Abu round.

Shamano by far has the best line management system I'd recommend anything from the Sahara up.

The driving force and secret desire of every bass fisherman, is to one day be a crappie fisherman............Could it be that the good Lord just smilies and looks the other way when a fisherman tells a lie?

I did a little research and ended buying the Pfleuger President. Its the highest rated. Spent $59 on it. We will see. It sure feels smooth.

That is a great little reel. I'm pretty sure that you will feel the same way. They are on the heavy side, but they are built like a tank. I have several of them. I found a couple of the limited edition Pfleuger Presidents on sale at Cabelas recently. They are a nice looking little reel and lighter than the standard President.

I'll probably get laughed at but this is my go to ultra light reel for crappie fishing. I love it.

Small pinnacle is good if you use 4pd line.. Anything greater than 4 pd you will not have good line capacity w/ mono. I switched to the Abu Cardinal sx and have not looked back. Great price and durable mho

I just do not like small spinning reels. Mainly because of line twist problems. Of course I grew up with my Garcia 5000.

I like the old Mitchell 308. You can still find them on Ebay. The line you use is the most important thing if you want to avoid problems. I've tried a bunch, and settled on Maxima Ultragreen 4-pound test.
