I finally understand. Fished from 4 to 5:30 on glass water. Clouds were building to north. A few minutes later, I heard the wind racing from the north. It was still calm at my spot. At Holiday and by time I reach water station swells are at least four feet from the north. Have to travel to State Park with side rollers slamming the boat. Took on lots of water I have fished all my life and have NEVER seen conditions deteriorate so quickly. What they say is true of this lake.

Scary to be caught on the water in a summer storm. Clouds move in very fast. Been there and done that. I keep close watch on storms now days. I do not want a repeat of previous mistakes.
John 21:3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee.

That storm did come in quick. I was on the lake and saw the clouds getting tall, so I checked the weather and saw there was lightning distant to the east. We headed back to the ramp and loaded up. I had just got through cleaning fish when it hit. When we crossed the 276 bridge headed east, there was a red Z7 bass boat paralleling the bridge going West, and he was having a bad time of it. I watched two boats trying to catch bait while it was like that and head out into it. Not smart IMO. We didn't have our best run this trip, but caught a few. I never did find a good school of fish. The catfish were also a pain this time. Those channels love live shad.

Good reminder/PA for us anglers for this time of the year and glad your safe, Ker. Happened to me once on hubbard and once on galveston beach. The storms were located at great distance but they came and formed quick with great fury and scared the living bleep out of everyone. Next week's weather is primed for these type of storms. And I am off all week. Doh!

I watched it do the same thing here at Cedar Creek, thankfully from shore. I was amazed to see boats just sitting on the water watching as the black clouds rolled in. The winds then hit hard and fast.

Only fished for an hour before storm hit. No luck bouncing slabs at Holiday. Was going to circle to Sun, Cloud, north of 276 then Finger point. God had different a different plan.

Biggest storm I ever got caught in was at Tawakonie.Storm came up had to get underneath that next bridge down from Two mile.I stepped off front of boat inton15-20 feet of water! The storm subsided we went out a little then all hell broke loose, got pummeled.Had to find nearest cover to ride out under covered dock.It subsided then heavy dark clouds came around this point,we tore out of there and took a beating to get backbtontwo mile.Been in a few storms that was the scariest for sure.

I have seen the same thing on Tawakoni many times. That lake seems to turn rougher, faster than just about any other lake I've spent time on. They all can though.
I will not hesitate to run back to Holiday (where I launch) at the first sign of a weather change. I understand a person's want to get back to their ramp of origin so they can load up and leave the lake, but the best thing to do is find the closest means of cover to get out of the weather and waves, asap. Worry about loading up later, get to safety first!
If I were ever asked to give someone a truck ride to another ramp to fetch their truck and trailer I would not hesitate to do it if it kept someone from having to make the run on the water in rollers.
Sometimes you have to swallow your pride and just ask for assistance. There's no shame in doing so. I'd much rather burn a few dollars worth of fuel than read about someone getting in trouble on the water.
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space!

I have been on Tawakoni when a storm comes up. Tornado come close by there 3 years ago and it was rough coming in. Ray Hubbard can get that way as well. South wind blows right down the lake and there is no place to hide.
