Went to NB this past Sunday and got skunked. Not sure if the holes were already fished out or what but the whole trip sucked. The worst trip this year. I am going to try this Saturday morning and use the boat to work my way into the creek from the lake. The crowds on land are getting to big for me so I think I will give the lake side a try.

I'm planning on heading up the Yegua from the park Tuesday. Hopefully I won't get run over by the big boats...

Had the lower Yegua to myself from about 10:30 am until 2:00 pm when the first boat showed. I hit the same hole that I had caught crappie out of in December before the rains. Ended up with 9 good Black Crappie, missed about 6 others, had 3 throw-backs and 2 gaspergoo. No whitebass, lost lots of jigs to the brush. Went about halfway to Newmans Bottom (where I could see evidence of bank fisherman) looking for whitebass but found none.

Were you using tube jigs or feathers? I can't seem to buy a bite from crappie using regular tubes and RRs. I've tried white, char/black, red/char...pretty much everything. Any tips on presentation would be great. Man I bet those tasted good!!

Nag,
The bite was better on 1/32 oz redhead/chartruse body /white or yellow tail fished straight down most of the time but I managed
a few fish casting from the bank and watching the line as the jigs decended and if they stopped I set the hook, worked about five times in a row. Vertical jigging seems to work best for crappie and I lose fewer jigs.

Well fished up steam to day from Erwin Biridge. Did very well fished all the way until there was no tresspassing posted on some trees. Did not start fishing until about 9am and left at 2 or so. Caught all whites picked some out of every whole I tried. Best luck I have had in the past 2 weeks. Maybe they are turning back on.

Other then the one spot on the Yegua I haven't found any numbers of crappie anywhere. But I guess that I'm really not targeting crappie either but just getting lucky and find a few once in a while wink

Went in the lake Sunday the 25th. Hit every brush pile I knew of, and a few new ones that I found. Nothing! tried shallow, deep, everything I had in the box and nothing brought up a fish. Everyone I talked to had the same report. The lake just is not yielding any crappie right now.why, who knows. Went up cedar creek, I found out my boat is too big to get into nails ( had hard enough time just getting there ). so I think I'll forget about getting up to the Yegua. Hope someone had some luck!

It's been several years since I targeted crappie but I've never been any good at finding them consistantly...
