Well, for the 2nd time I tried to catch white bass at Lake Fork. In 2010 my buddy Ed D and I went over there and got skunked. So, with my boat still on the trailer after having fished Lake Waco last Monday, I decided to give Fork a try again last Friday - now that I read that others are catching white bass there. To make sure I got to the right spots, I hired white bass guide Zach Hughes to go out with me in the afternoon at 1PM for 3 hours. To be fair to Zach, he said he doesn't take people out for whites right now during that time of day - he goes early in the morning or late if the afternoon.
Well, I assured Zach if he put me on fish, I could catch them any time of day. So, I pulled my boat over and launched at 8:30AM, fished all morning and never saw a white bass. No problem - Zach will put me on them. I picked up Zach at 1PM as planned, and we hit all his spots. In a couple of places we marked some fish, but the only white caught was one he snagged with his umbrella rig. I worked both #2 and #4 Mepps with every presentation in my bag, but could not catch one. After I let Zach off I went back out til 6PM and still could not find and catch white bass.
This is the only lake in Texas I've fished and not been able to catch white bass - after two attempts! Thus, I am writing it off. Good riddance Lake Fork!!!

I don't blame you, when you can catch all you want on CC. I going to Bridgeport in the morning and I picked up a few #3 Mepps spinners. Store didn't have any #4. So I am going to try your technique to see if I can land something besides catfish for a change.

DC, sure you didn't yell "fork it" with Fork and took off? Lol. Sorry to hear that. I am shocked to hear that. But still a very good read and good report to me. I admire your honesty If I were you, I would keep trying again and again to settle the score with the pesky fork whites..since you are still single and all

Ditto at Tawakoni. Guess I don't know the summer tactics. Last two trips resulted in a couple of diseased looking catfish and a few dinks. April, May and June it was catch till you got tired.

Dennis, I've never fished that lake, but I do agree that it's better to fish late afternoon/early evening at this time of year. When I fish Lewisville during summer, I'll typically launch about 3-4pm and fish till sunset.

Zeek, at every other lake I can catch them in the middle of the day - like Lake Waco last Monday. Caught about 50 today at Cedar Creek between 11 AM and 2 PM. Same for Tewak, Livingston, RC, Eagle Mountain, Cooper, Palestine and Ray Hubbard. Not sure what's going on at Fork.
