Seems like the rattlebait bite is heating up right along with the temperature. Last trip out the bass were hitting rattlebaits so hard and fast they literally ate the paint off a few of my favorites. So it seemed like a good time to add a little detail and refinish the best of the lot. I added kill dots, layered lateral lines some subtle highlight shades, and a bloody wound. Finished them off with a fresh coat of D2T and new hooks. Used handmade stripe and dot stencils, iridescent and transparent acrylic paint to add the bling. Might get a few good photo's of the results next time out. Can't wait to try 'em out!

I sure like the coloration on the top left. Well done.

I sure like the coloration on the top left. Well done. Good choice CW...that little 1/4 ounce rattlebait is pure poison when the bass are actively chasing shad. I've gone thru several in the last year, they just get torn the heck up....the bass hits are so hard it strips the finish off and mangles the hooks...I have to change them out after every few trips.

Fished up north in Fannin county with pretty good results...lots of numbers (+20) most were in the one to three pound range, but no big bass. The majority of the strikes came on two baits...they were inhaling them.

Caught this fatty and several more like it on a new pattern I've been using. Its a holographic silver with the color shift from chartreuse to a bluish. It flashes color depending on the angle of light...first silverish/bluish then silverish/chartreuse. Along with the holographic effect it creates some awesome baitfish looks. The lure body is a 1/4 ounce game vibe that I stripped and repainted. I really like this one. Seems like largemouth bass like it, too.

Well since nobody else will take a shot at explaining color shift, I'll try. The paint used has a lot to do with the color shift effect. The pigment in the paint reflects light in such a way that the object appears to change colors depending on the angle of the light reflected from it. Pearlescent and gem shift colors are good examples of paints that have a color shift. Similar color shift effects can be made using layers of color. An example could be a base color screened by fine mesh then different color over the base color. Done properly and with the right colors the effect is, depending on the direction the object is viewed from, the color appears slightly different. Holographic foil under transparent paint can produce color shift as can holographic glitter. Color shift is really a lot more complex than this explanation... I looked everywhere for a scientist to explain it but I couldn't find one for love nor money, so I had to settle for my own attempt...such as it is.

This is what I imagined, when I started seeing those color changing car paints.
When you look at a piece of paper from the side, you only see a .004" line, but when you look at the face of a piece of paper, you se the 8.5" by 11.0" sheet.
I thought that color changing paint had tiny pieces of colored flake, that when painted on, were sprayed at an angle that forced the flake to all align on the same 3 dimensional plane. Then, each additional color was sprayed on at from a different angle, which also aligned the flake differently. So, when you look at the object, you can only see the flakes/colors that are facing your eyes at that angle. I've even wondered if people used magnets to align metal flake in car paint.
like the man says...if you're swimming in the ocean and get bitten by a shark, its not a shark attack. You're in THEIR neighborhood. If you're at home in your shower, turn around and a shark is in there with you...THAT'S a shark attack
