What great trips on Fork can produce. Way to go Matt

The water temps have varied this week on Fork ranging from 42 to settling at 48 late this afternoon. The water temp should warm up and begin to stay warm with the warm nights we are suppose to be getting. Look for the bass to turn on and begin to move more towards the back of the creeks during the next week or so. This report will be much like the last few and should remain this way until the water gets some what warmer.

This week I had great success and some tough days mixed in. All of my fish were caught out of 10 foot of water and less. Most of the time in the grass or very close to some grass.

A lipless crank bait in red/orange, orange, and craw patterns have been the most consistent of all the baits I have thrown. I have done good on the and ounce models of the lipless crank baits. I have found most of my fish along grass lines and grass flats located in the creeks. In the creeks I mean from the mouth all the way to the back. Find thick grass located in 4 to 8 feet for the best results as far as numbers and size. Some days it seems like they are out in the open grass flats and then other days where the are close to the trees located within the grass beds. This has been pretty easy to figure out and seems to hold to every place I go to when I figure out which structure the seem to be holding to. Make sure you add a twitch t your retrieve for best results.

I had some good success this last week on a suspending jerk bait. I have been throwing a 6 to 7 inch model. My best colors have been a purple back/chart body and a chrome/blue back. I have been fishing these in the same places as the lipless crank baits with good results. It has been very good as a back up bait to pick up some extra fish behind the lipless cranks. Work these baits with light twitches and long pauses. When you do go to twitch the bait use a light twitch or two then let it sit again. Most bites have occurred while the bait is sitting still but a few aggressive fish have hit the bait while it is moving.

The jig bite is still a little slow but look for it to turn on as the water starts to warm up a little. My go to jig is a ounce Strike Works Wood Jig in black/blue/purple or black/blue with a Gary Yamamoto 5 inch laminate craw in black/blue. Look for these fish to be holding in 4 to 12 feet of water along the creek edges and brush piles. Make sure to work your jig slow and pay attention to your line to detect those slight bites.

To pick up a few extra fish from those grass beds and along the stumps try throwing a Gary Yamamoto 5 inch Senko. I have had good success throwing it on a 4/0 hook texas rigged with no weight. Throw it very slow with light twitches. Look for a slight pressure as the bites have felt like a clump of grass. So when in doubt set the hook.

I still have some April dates open for anyone that is interested in a professional Lake Fork Guide Trip.
