Man...it's been a long time since I've paid a visit to TFF.

Having recently moved to Georgetown, I'm taking my 3 year old fishing at Granger Lake tomorrow morning. I don't have a boat, so we'll be fishing from the bank. If anyone can give me some good advice on a good place to go to get him into some fish I would greatly appreciate it.

I should also note that I've never been to this lake, so I really don't know what to expect.

Thanks for the help.

Shane

I would think that the San Gabriel river might be a better choice then Granger. I am not at all impressed with that lake. I have fished it several times and it stinks. If you go up Hwy 29 there is a little park on the right hand side that you can fish the river for whites and crappie. I am not sure what the name of it is. You might fare better asking in the crappie section of this forum and there are some guys that could probably turn you on to some good spots. I just dont think that granger is very good, but that is my opinion. good luck

Yup!

My $0.02....

If you want to fish Granger Lake,

Go to Wilson Fox Park on Granger Lake. Friend has been using minnows, on the park pier. Times: 2-5pm. Has caught several nice crappie.

LINK TO ALL THE City of Georgetown Parks. Try Blue-Hole...it has some good fish in it, and close to home!

Thanks for the info. I'll look into it and check the crappie section. Any idea how far out on SH 29 that park is?

Thanks Ranger R. Closer to home is always better...especially with a three year old.

Yes, Blue Hole might be a better choice with a 3 yr old. You should go to the TPW website and see all the stocking reports for that hole. Lots of catfish have been stocked there too. Good luck! I grew up fishing that hole. Lord knows how many fish I have caught there.

I have 9 catfish I feed bread to in the warmer weather on the San Gabriel, but that is my secret where. smile

Looking at the map, I assume most people fish Blue Hole from the south bank?

When you get to the blue hole you will see that there is really only one side to fish with a three year old. It has a bathroom, but you should probably take some chairs to sit on. You have to park up the street from the Blue Hole and walk in. There is no parking by the water. You should have fun.

He had fun but after about 30 minutes of not catching any fish he decided that throwing rocks into the water was a lot more fun than sitting there watching a bobber that wasn't bobbing. So, I fished and he threw rocks in the water until he decided he'd had enough and was ready to go home. We'll probably try again this coming weekend.

That's a great little spot though. I've probably driven over that bridge 100 times and never noticed Blue Hole down there.

Thanks to everyone who recommended Blue Hole!
