I don't use the wacky rig. I get better action and more strikes with a simple weightless wide gap worm hook like a 3 or 4 gama. Just thread it through the end, back through the body and slightly bury tip. Thats the Texas rig. If I don't catch them on the wacky rig or end up getting hung up too much and need to go weedless, Texas rig all the way!

I don't consider it a texas rig if it doesn't involve a weight. But that's just me. I'm weird like that.

Use your electronics and water clarity to get an idea of if the fish are suspending or hugging bottom. Figuring out the thermocline this time of year will be a big deal as well. Most of the lakes I fish 25ft is about as deep as I'll fish with the exception of a few Ozark lakes. If I hit a main lake dock or one with some depth then I'll time my rate of fall for the bait I'm using and allow it to sink just past the depth I found the fish holding. This will then give me an idea of how long to let the weight fall and cut down wasted time. Why let my bait fall 40ft when the bass are suspending under that dock at 10ft? You'll be able to get more casts in which should equal more bites. Hope this helps.
