I went to Padre Island about 30 miles down two weekends ago and had no luck. One little shark, hardhead, and a whiting. Seemed to me they wouldn't hit anything dead. Tons of crab in the water. Was wondering if anyone has had any luck in Port A. I'm planning on bay fishing from a kayak but still enjoy surf fishing and will probably end up there at some point.

Surf has been boring! Not a lot of action.. Had one really awesome day.. Then it was a ghost town..the water cleared up and seemed like the fish cleared out?! We got some really good action at the jetties 6/30 late afternoon: the pier has been awesome at late night under the lights with live shrimp free lining

Same as Led mentioned. Fished surf Wed after the storms cleared out. North towards Port A found some bird action, lots of pelicans and some gulls, ended up catching & messing with Blacktip shark pups, all on spoons and topwaters. Most BTS pup action I've ever encountered. Non stop, following spoons, hitting topwaters, lost lots of jewelry to them. Drove the beach south and was a Rally Killer, every group of birds we came across, when we jumped in they dispersed before we got into casting range.

Beautiful water, maybe a bit too clear, but nothing except BTS pups and few Skippies. Most Blue crabs I've ever seen, and huge ones.

Today water looks real good, but forecast for surf looks rough after Saturday morning. If me I'd fish the south jetty every evening through the 4th on the outgoing tide, if dealing with large crowds are acceptable to you.

Thanks for the info. South jetty sounds goo to me, I'm heading out Monday and staying through the weekend so I'll be able to avoid the weekend crowd. Again, appreciate the input.

don't get flesh eating fungus

So I typically just wade fish the flats. But taking the kids down to the beach this weekend in Port A, so I was curious to see if I could catch something in the surf, like a personal best Trout. (Never have tried). I picked up a 9ft Penn with spinning reel and putting 20 lb braid on it. I have 3/4 oz spoons, plenty of top water options, a 3" Speck Rig, and of course the usual flats type ammo. (Gulps, Popping corks, jigs, etc etc).

Figured I would just start by throwing a spoon and see where that gets me (unless you guys have other opinions) . In regards to rigging, I assume I need to put it on a 20 or 30 lb leader. Do I need a slip weight to help get it out there? Any other recommendations? Is early morning the best time to hit the surf if the wind isn't too bad? Is there any action at mid day when there are thousands of people splashing around?

Fish the clear waters of the bays until the water clears in the surf. It was wrecked all last week. It lookee like the surf was trying to clear up as I was leaving, but I would still fish a moving tide in the bay until then. Unless you're ok with catching hardheads, stay out of the surf for a bit.

Anyone has update this week for Port A? Going to corpus this weekend, plan to do some fishing with the kid.

Fish the bays. Surf is still brown on cams. I've been hearing about lots of small blacktips in the surf. I hooked one last week on a piece of cut ladyfish.

I just left Port A. Surf was chocolate. Only saw hardheads caught.

Went to Corpus Friday and Saturday, didn't catch anything at the south jetty or in the surf, water was murky and it was windy. Continued at India point pier Saturday morning, saw people catching spot trout using live shrimp, we only caught a cutlass fish and a hardhead using dead shrimp, Also tried OSO bay bank late afternoon,no luck either, not very productive, but my son was having fun catching lots of pinfish

Water temperature has been increasing for days and the surf is clearing. Green water is now at the t-head of the Caldwell pier. Provided that the water temp stays between 85-89, the water should clear up completely and the fishing should be much better soon.

What's causing to stir up? We are coming down the 24-31 and I really enjoy just wading out and throwing jigs a spoons for what ever bites.. Catch a few lady fish and throw the big rods out after people start leaving as long as I can do that it'll be a good week.

The cold water upwelling and the strong wind that pushed it onshore. Now with the winds dying down and the surf warming, it's clearing. Pray for light winds.
