Academy will take anything back if there's an issue with it. They have the best and easiest return policy I've seen.

Academy is usually great on this, the only issue I had was a pair of Bated duty boots which came apart, I could not find my receipt the Mesquite store said they never sold those ! About 3-4 months later I found the receipt, went back and was told it had been too long ! All I was offered was a 10% joke off purchase.
For nothing but an upgrade to a new one only I would not do it. Especially of no problems.

Everybody knows Sports Academy is great, but you are asking a question that we might not exactly know...
Will they exchange a new reel, new model, for an "old" model? Hmm, let's us know!

i worked at an Academy for almost a year. i've seen them exchange worn out dirty work boots. and one pair we didn't carry anymore, but they give the guy partial store credit for a different pair. you might have to ask to speak to a manager.
