First off, be very careful as San Luis Pass is a dangerous place and drownings are a reality: http://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/...ass-4617299.phpConsider a life jacket. I have never fished there so I am sure others will be able to help you out. If you want general pointers on surf fishing on the Island there should be plenty banked on this forum somewhere, as this question comes up often. Good luck and let us know how you do!

X2 the most dangerous place to wade on the Tx coast. so much water flows out of there that it can really suck the sand out from under you. i'm talking about with in 1/4 mi of the pass on the surf or bay side.

Yea I'd heard that, I wasn't gonna get in I'll get right up to where it is breaking and throw as far as I can. I've got a Daiwa saltist on a 12ft Pro angler rod, my son will be using a 10ft Daiwa D Wave spinner, will be using finger mullet and hope some reds come looking for it, then we'll make it out to one of the piers and use lighter gear, I've got a Revo Toro Beast for that

When I surf fish, a real must-have are my rod holders. Easy to make them with rebar, pvc pipe, and hose clamps.
Live each day like it's your last because one day you'll be right!
