I just installed a Motorguide Xi5 on my pontoon last week. I have been amazed at how it will hold the boat ON THE SPOT while fishing brush piles in any wind I should be out in. I'm still learning how to use the control (understatement) and I have a few issues in my setup to fix but overall it is great. No interference on my graph. (be sure to get a 60 amp circuit breaker) Also be sure your plug fits in tight. If you get even a slight power interruption the unit shuts down and has to reset the GPS.

It's pretty neat to put the boat upwind of the pile and fish out the back end with the wind at your back. The feature that allows you to push one button and move the boat 5' forward or back or to either side is cool.

Trollers should love this motor. (Even Guy kind of liked it)

Ernest I used mine today for the first time and I agree 100% with you on everything including learning which button to push. We even parked in the top of a tree and anchored it and not one tree limb ever touched the boat. That jog button is awesome for working a pile. thumb

Looks good but my view of MK right now is about as low as it can get. Mine has been in one of their approved service centers for MONTHS just for an electrical cord. Called MK and they said the cord was in stock and they would call the service center to see what the problem was. That was several weeks ago and still no trolling motor or calls with updates. I prefer their product over MG but recently had to buy another motor so I can fish...and it was definately not a MK. They lost this long time customer and if this is not taken care of very soon I will never go back to their products and will voice my opinion on their service from now on realmad

Sorry to here this:
I carry both brands of motors so I am not bias on one from the other.
Your problem lies with the ASC Authorized Service Center you are working with. Minn Kota is having some issues with certain ASC's and are working to cut them off as they are not holding true to the Minn Kota way of life. I am working on some things and hope to become an ASC in the near future.

Not impressed with fhe auto deploy on the Ulterra. That looks like a big bag of problems. Winter if this one will be the same.

Thanks, I hope you do become an ASC. I have talked directly to MK once and they said they would talk to the ASC and fix the problem.....hasn't happened and next week has been over a month since talking to them so I will call them again next week to see what if anything they are doing.

Who is the ASC you have been working with if you don't mind me asking.

David, here's what they need. Get them to invent one that does all these cool things that we like, but it knows when I'm about to get my line hung up in the trolling motor when I'm on spot lock, and stops, or shoots me with a taser or something.

I have done it twice this week I these winds, and two other guys have done it also. (On the positive side, I am getting really quick at getting out a trash bag full of line in record time with that eliminator nut.).

If I was a fishing guide, I couldn't think of a better tool than a trolling motor with spot lock. I hope the price will go down on them in the future. I would use the heck out of it!

Well if this new one is real good there might be a bunch of used ones going up for sale thumb

I try to replace my trolling motor about every 3-4 years (preventative maintenance), and that time is about here. But I think I'll wait and see if the MK works as good as the MG. I do like the spot lock, but do hate the problem that Double D mentioned (that MG has no mercy for you if you get your line in its way). So keep us posted David as Ernest promised he'd pay for my next TM clap

I tested one of these motors for Minn Kota and let me tell you it's the best trolling motor I've ever used in my 20 plus years in professional fishing. It definitely makes your day of fishing easier and helps you catch more fish with less effort. If you're serious about fishing you will definitely want to purchase one of these trolling motors.

I only wish that they would incorporate a DI/2D transducer into the motor to eliminate the need to zip tie the transducer cable up the shaft.
Tell us Gary, can you at least zip tie a transducer cable to the trolling motor shaft on this new model or will it be loose like the competitor motors?

Does it have two GPS antennas to allow the anchor feature to hold as good as the competitor motors?

Mine had the transducer in the motor like my fourtrex. It stayed on the spot perfectly in most cases. There were still a few bugs they had to work out when I turned mine back in. As far as I know that's all been corrected. Also the intenna is was in the head of the motor so even without your electronics hooked up it would spot lock on the place you wanted to fish with just a touch of your foot.
