I have really been thinking about buying a new boat but just can't see paying $60,000 and a new boat when mine runs just fine. But if I don't buy a new boat I want to upgrade stuff on mine. I need a new trolling motor and looking at the Ipilot. Move my Lowrence hdi 7 to the front and get a 12 for the console and link them together. Now to the power poles. I see a lot of them and also the Talon. What are the good and bad of both. Do I go 8' or 10', I am thinking this could be like a shop. If you are thinking about building a 40'x60' you better go 40x80' to just make sure. How bad do they get in the way for someone fishing from the back deck. Do they effect boat speed/performance. I have never fished from a boat with the power pole/Talon so I do not know where to start. Also if I'm going to do this do I get 1 or 2. I bass fish, catfish and crappie fish. The way I'm going to get away with the upgrades are that my stepson school is starting up a fishing team this year so these are things that I need for him to be competitive. That's my story and I'm going to stick to it. I am running a 2004 Nitro NX898 SC with a Mercury 225 optimax Thanks for yalls help.

i have my second boat with talon 8 ft --- i just run a single --dual will prevent you from pinwheeling with the wind --not a big deal --talon all electric --p.p. hydraulic -- both good units chocolate/vanilla
either one beats nothing by a bunch !

First off don't get an iPilot if you are on team Lowrance. Get a MG Xi5 and you will not regret it. I have the two cheapest 8' power poles that money can buy. Both of them cost me less than what most people are paying for one 10' blade. I can anchor up rock solid in 6.5' of water with my power poles and can anchor up at any other depth with my Xi5.

I have used power poles since 2009. Wanted to be able to hold in water deeper than 6'. I looked at the 8' poles but decided they were an electrocution hazard. Ended up with 12' Talons and couldn't be happier. They hold in 11.6 feet. I also have a Minn Kota Ulterra for depths over 11.5 feet. I strongly recommend both.

I have a power pole sportsman on my bass boat and two 12' Talons on my center console.I went with Talons on my newer boat because they can be removed by unplugging the connection cable and loosening two bolts for a family day of inner tubing or skiing, and for the depth they anchor in they stick up in the air less. The power pole has been to the shop twice, once for a hydraulic line leak and this year the motor went out and it has taken weeks to get a new one. R&R marine told me the motor brushes went out but you have to get a new motor since the brushes can't be replaced. I noticed the last time I was in Bass Pro their display said the sportsman II and the higher model power poles have brushless motors so they must have improved the later models. My power pole was purchased in 2010 and was their least expensive model, but was still about 1200.00 so certainly not inexpensive. No problems with the Talons so far but they are only 2 yrs old. I noticed in a previous post on here that someone said Talons can pick up debris from the bottom on the pole and when retracted some small pieces of the mud/ sand can eventually affect the gears/ pulleys, this may apply to salt water more than fresh. Maybe other posters can comment on this.

Nitro, I have two 10' Power Pole Blades on my Nitro. You are more than welcome to go with me and check them out yourself. I think the best way to decide is to test them out on the water. I can probably also help you save a couple of dollars.

Have you checked the fuse to make sure that there is power to the pump? Look for a little blinky light. If you don't see one, then it is not a power pole problem, but rather a power problem.

I don't own talons but remember reading a post and I believe that there is a place to attach your hose and flush them after a trip to prevent dirt and things from hurting the insides.
