I use the rubber peg it, easy to put in and easy to take out.

I'm mostly throwing a babybrushhog, a 3/16 tungston weight, a 3/0 ewg trokar hook and 12 lb fluoro. I get a lot of pecks but can't hook them, someone told me it could be perch, kinda new to soft plastic fishing, but I seem to get a lot more strikes than when I use a crankbait.

If you don't have the rubber peg it style pegs a toothpick works pretty good. Try it and see if you have any luck. I typically only peg if I'm punching or flipping and pitching only.

I use the Peg-It's from Acadamy. Each one has a round head with a slit in it for your line to fit in. This allow two things:
- It centers the knot up on the weight so there is no twisting of the line going on.
- It allow you to remove the peg because the head of the rubber stem is flat. Just slip the point of a hook or knife blade under it and pull it out.

Sometimes when I'm getting a lot of pecks, I swing really fast and catch catfish.

I use these for my flipping/pitching/punching. I feel like these are better than the $1.69 stops and they hold my weight in place a lot better. These are tough and durable, so you get what you pay for.

Just saying. That little rubber stopper touching a limb in heavy cover feels like a load up to me. Fishing on slack line and picking up to feel the bite; the rubber just doesn't get along with the wood. It keeps me busy setting the hook twice as often.

Donald,I use the Peg It's and still use the round toothpick. It does not make a whole lot of difference to the fish, I think the big girls like the peppermint on the toothpick! Dan

You may be on to something there. I will research that............. Can't find anything; but if you ever send me those baits I will make you some peppermint striped skirt to go on a few spinners.

If I'm flipping it's pegged. If I'm casting it is not.

If you think they're hitting the sinker, peg the sinker at the head of the lure and find out. When i'm getting a lot of hits but not hooking up I'm changing to a different weight and/or a more subtle bait like a grub or going to something like a shaky head, internally weighted tube or drop shot . Often on a casting setup I am running a bobber stop in front of my slip weight and another behind my weight so I can move both to get a sort of quick Carlolina rig setup if I feel like it.
