I recently put a new set of trolling batteries in my boat and noticed something odd. The battery that has negative out to the TM, always seems to discharge slightly faster than the other two batteries. Im determining this by the meter built into my charger. I also noticed this on my last set of batteries. ANY explanations? Is this normal?

If all three batteries are good/equal (not self discharging) its impossible for one to discharge faster than the others (connected in series) as the discharge current must flow through all three batteries.

If one has less capacity, it would still discharge at the same rate but go dead sooner.

I would have to agree. If the "Negative Battery" is discharging MORE then the Trolling Motor must be using more NEGATIVE's than the Positives and your motor would be turning backwards!

I'll have to disagree here with an even draw. I have been boating for 30+ and every boat I have had does this. I rotate the batteries when this becomes more evident in the charge cycle and it never fails before long the negative battery connection starts draw down more. Rotating has extended the life of batteries for me.

When you installed,, Did you get your fingers all over the connections of battery or the cables? Did you use an electrical cleaning agent prior to using Dielectric grease? As that Negative post is the home going to your trolling mtr. it takes the brunt of everything. Also clean your plug and treat your front panel as well.
