I've got the blk/yel wire off the switch box and it runs fine. If I touch the wire back to the switch box it will kill it. I'm just trying to make sure the box is bad before I replace it. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Sounds like that wire may be shorted to ground some where,Unless it is your ground wire, if it is then sounds maybe a bad switch,

The key is in the run position. I will take another look at the harness and key switch. Thanks guys!

when it is running with the wire off does the kill switch work? If it doesn't it may have something to do with the kill switch wiring.

Does it start with the blk/yel hooked up?
The blk/yel wire should provide ground to the switch box when the key switch is turned to the off position to kill the engine. If it will not start with the blk/yel hooked up, either the key switch is bad, the safety switch is bad, or the blk/yel is shorted to ground somewhere. One other thing it could be is the tilt mercury switch. The mercury switch should be on the side of the engine block, if yours still has it.

The yel/blk wire is spliced into the harness with one going to a terminal block and the other going to the switchbox. The tilt switch has been removed as far as I can tell. CDI troubleshooting points to the box being bad. I ran fine and just quit one day.
