He said he was fishing a one ounce jig with a strike king rodent . He fished that setup to get a fast fall thru the bush. Usually I fish one just heavy enough to get thru wanting a slower fall.
Guess that's why he fishes for a living and I don't.

Cool thing is not a single person predicted a heavy jig like that in the bushes for the win on Texoma. You nailed it, that is why they are so good at what they do.

Interesting to read Casey Ashley explain why he used braid in practice but only Fluoro and a lighter weight in the event. Hackney swore the braid and heavy weight was the key. Ashley had a huge bag and the lead after 3 days. It was interesting the comparison.
Then we see what happens on day 4.
I also noticed all the pictures of Swindle and his buzzbait fish. I threw a buzzbait till I was blue in the face on Raybob today and didn't get a sniff on it.

Caught my biggest fish last year in a tournament flipping boat docks in 2-3 ft of water with a 3/4 Oz jig no telling how many good ones I caught doing it. Almost every one was on the fall, tried same exact color just a 3/8 or 1/2 and would catch less fish. I think the faster fall makes them react faster to the bait. Plus you can skip a bigger jig alot further.

I've been getting a little better at trying heavier baits in the shallows this year. There is no way I would have been pitching a bowling ball like that though.

Theres something about the way it fits on the jig that doesnt look natural to me, he said. If I want a bigger profile, I upsize to the Rage Lobster, it has the right profile. Thought it was interesting seeing him use a rodent on the back after reading this article a while back.

The live coverage was fun to watch; they did a great job. During the weigh in, it was interesting to hear several pros including Rick Clunn talk about the shad running along the edge of the shoreline on the outside of the brush, but not up in the brush. It's amazing how they figure out different patterns.

I wish I could fish cover like those guys do. They hardly ever get hung up and when they do they get it off with out breaking off. I need to work on my jig game

The live coverage was fun to watch; they did a great job. During the weigh in, it was interesting to hear several pros including Rick Clunn talk about the shad running along the edge of the shoreline on the outside of the brush, but not up in the brush. It's amazing how they figure out different patterns. The normal shoreline mention was interesting. I think the drought and up and down waters over the last 2 years played into a great pattern. The tournament on Roberts a couple of weeks ago was interesting and had a great fight for the win. To bad it did not have the same great coverage.
