You should of tied on a 4oz weight and knocked him in the head or maybe beat him with your fishing rod.

Step 1: cut his line
Step 2: throw his tackle box in the water
Step 3: profit?

I think you probably stuck it to him on the part where you said you'd go right and you made him go left. You had obviously scouted out the pond on Google Earth prior to your arrival. To be fair you should've flipped a coin to be able to choose directions. You need to file a formal complaint with the tournament director that was onsite to help determine the official outcome. I'm sure there was also an off limits period for this pond. Again, being that you chose going to the right and also knew what lure to throw to get a bite that quick suggests you had recent info. This calls for a polygraph. I think you're really the guilty one and trying to divert all the attention away from you by blaming him.
Don't worry....I have a solution. Plan another vacation with your buddy and do a fish over. All problems will be solved then!

I go fishing twice a year with two great friends of more years than I care to remember. I'm now the only one with a boat and about the only time they go fishing each year is the 3-4 days at a time we go. For some reason they seem to think I know where the fish are on every lake we visit and every time we go. I'm on the trolling motor so I try to cast as far toward the front of the boat as I can. What do they do? Try to throw as close to me as possible. There have been numerous times I have had to tell them, "Hey, you are passing up the best water in this area. Throw straight off the side. I honestly think that's where most of the fish are."
They accuse me of trying to ****block them, which reminds them of the time back in 1988 when I allegedly did something shady to one or both of them, and the cycle continues.
The truth is I would rather see them catch fish than catch them myself. I catch enough the rest of the year to more than make up for it. Now stealing my beer or playing a limp wristed song back at the campfire? That's unforgiveable.

Buddy and I are in Florida on vacation. We are pond hopping in San Destin resort. I take him to a spot. I say I'll go right. You go left. 2nd cast I get a boil on a chatterbait. Instead of going left, he now begins throwing right beside me. I start working through baits trying to obtain a bite. I cast down bank and get hung. My buddy then throws immediately into my spot while I attempt to reclaim bait. He catches 3lber. I told him that didn't seem appropriate. This is a friendly disagreement. Thought I would solicit outside opinions. So.... Your siggy tells me you should be inclined to turn the other cheek but if this bothers you enough that you would take the time to post here and ask for a "ruling", I am curious. When I go fishing with my buddies, it is a given that we WILL try to catch each other's fish ANY chance we can get. That's part of the fun of going with my buddies. If you truly feel it was inappropriate, you may want to stop and consider what the vacation was all about in the first place. Not judging here - just asking. Just my

You should have cut his line. He loses a bait, the fish and has to retie. This also buys you time to get unhung and would have surely thrown him off his game. He knew he was stealing your fish and was probably laughing at you. Turn the tables on him and relish in his dismay. Laugh about it over a beer when you get back to the house/condo.

I love the discussion. I knew it would elicit a lot of discussion. Usually there is some type of wager. As far as scouting, I have been to this place exactly one time two months ago. I actually positioned us between two places I caught fish and told him so. We are far from ruining a friendship. We are just hyper competitive. No sour grapes, I just told him it would be interesting to post here to see opinions. And... I have not been disappointed. Thank you tff.

Have a bottle of tequila and one questionable shot glass. Any time someone is smart enough to wrangle a fish from the competition. The LOOSER takes a shot.

As stated before, should have drawn straws for which way to go, then you could hold him to that. You decided for him.....not fair to enforce that.....
