Can anyone give me any incite as to the best hook size for Carolina rigging a zoom ol monster 10.5" worm? I was on ray roberts Saturday and Sunday throwing it on a 5/0 wide gap offset gamagatsu and it was working well but I noticed I was hooking the fish way back in their mouths nearly poking their eyes out from the inside out. Fish were only 10" though so not sure if downsizing to like a 3/0 would hurt my chances if big nasty girl comes along in the double digits looking for a big red bug worm or if a smaller 3/0 would still get her in the boat. Anyways any help would be greatly appreciated.

Um bud that's where you wanna hook them. Down deep less chance to come off. haha well I'm kinda new to the bass game so didn't want to be releasing a bunch of one eyed bass. So far definitely think the c-rig is a favorite followed by chatterbaits then surprisingly the Ned rig. The latter 2 come equipped with hooks so no big choice there but hook size in soft plastics are a bit cloudy with all sorts of schools of thinking. But definitely looks like a resounding response of going 5/0 on the Ol Monster. Thanks fellas.

Stick with the 5. Better safe than sorry. Don't want to stick a teenager and get your heart broke.

5/0 Owner XXX straight shank seems to work for me. that was gonna be my next question the wide gap offset was obviously working for me but I see a lot of the big names saying straight shank and obviously they know their stuff. I've been dragging my c-rig through lots of flooded sticks and little bushes so I found myself wondering if that huge loop created by the wide gap was causing me to hang up more often than a straight shank would. Either way the c-rig has really got me excited about bass fishing. I'm a crappie guy but I caught maybe a 6 or 7ish pound large mouth on a frog last year in the fall and hadn't got bass off my mind since.

I prefer the Tru-Turn hooks to the offset worm hooks. I make my own bait holders , like the flipping hooks have. I use 3/0 for almost all worm baits or craw worms. I use 4/0 for thicker baits like lizards, brush hogs and beaver type baits. I use EWG hooks for Flukes.

5/0 offset or straight shank. Works fine for 10-12in worms I kinda like straight shank lately.
