Today I went out fishing on joe pool, the water has dropped 3 feet since the last time I fished it. I had a tough time locating fish. Does the bite turn off after a decent drop in water,or have the fish just moved out deeper? I've only lived here about two years so I'm not that familiar with patterns around here. Thanks

Well.....bite doesn't slow down, but they do get harder to catch. They move off the banks and go suspend. Mostly. Some just move to the nearest cover that is close to where they were.
If you're looking for a needle in a haystack....look for haystacks in 1ft or water. The needle will be close by. Lol. Hint hint
Today, I patiently waited my turn on a hay stack on a point by Lloyd ramp. Two kayaks and a Skeeter fished the bank....none pitched to the haystack sitting in front of them. I went over and caught a 5lb slot.
The fish are there. If ya want to catch endless shorts and slots, and the occasional black and white rain umbrella and aluminum coors light bottle, throw a Rapala rattle rap #6 in gizzard shad color. Stay in 4-8ft of water.
Went to the back of each upper end of the lake today....nothing there. All fish came north of the bridges, except the predictable fish by Lloyd.
Eat. Sleep. Fish.

Thanks. I have a lot of learning to do. I've only had a boat for a year. When you throw a Carolina rig are you locating fish on a graph first or looking at certain features? I have a Carolina rig on one of my setups I just don't have any experience with it.

Pool can be a fickle lake until you get used to it. I went for a 2 months or more straight without even getting a bite. Sometimes it seems the fish have just disappeared. After awhile you'll locate spots that work for whatever type of fishing that you do. If you had located fish before, just move out a little more. Sometimes it is just easier to find new spots. I've been fishing it for about 2 years and am just now really venturing out and working on the other side of the lake.

Jeez....I'd quit going if I had that kind of dry spell anywhere. Before I went two months without a fish, I shock em up to the top! Haha

Haha +1 Like you said yesterday, the lake fishes very small for its size.

The wind really makes it fish small too. I got lucky the other day and got on a school of sand bass that made for a fun day.. but the LM I never did find. I got a couple of small keepers but I never felt like I found any pattern. Xcalibur XR50 in Gold Black has been the deal for me. That bait flat out catches fish.. Booyah doesn't offer that color, so the last ones I got from Amazon are going to have to last me a while!

They were still up shallow for me maybe 3-5ft. Caught a couple of good overs last week. I couldn't get them on anything other than jig and tx rig.

It paid off in the long run. Luckily, I enjoy just being in the boat as much as fishing

This last weekend, I caught them still shallow. But not as easily. The big dumb ones were still there. Lol. I would have had an easier time if I just died on a c rig or deep crank, but I love flipping too much.

Best thing I ever did was spending time on the water with a local legend, really opened my eyes to the bigger picture and I've had great trips ever since.
