Throttle Calibration

Throttle calibration can substantially improve throttle responsiveness over "factory standard." Many people notice what appears to be sluggish throttle response or a "dead area" at initial accelerator depression. Throttle calibration can take care of these.

1) turn the key in the ON position (don't start the engine)
2) press the gas pedal down slowly all the way down
3) let go of the gas pedal fast so it come back up
4) turn key into the OFF position
repeat steps 1-4 two more times then start engine.

Most drivers notice an immediate change in throttle response, but depending on your driving style, you may need to repeat this procedure periodically due to the computer's adaptive programming. You likely need to repeat this procedure any time the battery is disconnected.

Your the first person ive heard of that has one, how do you like it?

I like it a lot. I had the 3.5L EB before. The 2.7L is quite peppy and pulls what I have just as well as my 3.5L did. I averaged about 18.5 out of my last truck (2012 F150 4x4 CC) and I get around 21 in my current one (2015 F150 4x4 CC)

So, I have no complaints. It moves this aluminum truck just fine and I get better MPGs than anything else out there (besides the Ecodiesel), so I'm happy. I also like how the oil filter is on top of the engine, makes changing the oil in this truck a breeze!

My next door neighbor has a 2.7 eb. He says he averages 17.9 darn near every fill up. He never tows anything. So I went on fuelly to see what everyone else gets and on fuelly and they averaged 18.5. So I guess you got a good one...

Thanks for posting this. I have a 2011 EcoBoost, F150 CC 4x4. From Day one my average is 16.8 mpg. That is the only complaint I have ever had with this truck. It never got the mileage they advertised.

I do have a "dead area" in my throttle response. I'm going to try this today and see if it helps. Thanks again.

They did not advertise you can drive it how you want and get the rated mpg, nor did they advertise it would get the HWY rated mpg in combined driving. Some people like to look at the numbers and say ooh look 21 mpg hwy... That doesn't mean 21 at 80 mph nor does it mean 21 mpg on your commute to and fro work with traffic and mixed driving. I drove my FIL's 3.5 ecoboost for a while when our last vehicle was totaled and I was able to get the rated mpg or better if I tried to. On the stick it says something about driving habits too.

^ for sure. Once you go over 65-70 in a 2.7L EB, the mileage starts to drop pretty good. I drive around 65 and I'll get around 21 MPG most of the time. If I stay at 75-80, its goes back to 18-19ish.

Interesting. I'm gonna try this on my 2011. I have a bit of a dead spot in the early part of accelerating. But once it grabs, that pickup will get it.

the mpg that you get varies, based on a number of factors:

1. speed - my new F150 3.5L EB starts really dropping past 65 mph; it gets great mileage at 55-60.
2. hills - even small ups and downs will lower your overall mpg.
3. wind - has a huge effect; once drove to Colorado (in a different vehicle); had a 25 tailwind going and got better than 35 mpg; coming back, fighting the same headwind, only got 19 mpg; even a 5-10 will make a significant difference.
4. driving habits - you know what they are; jackrabbit starts and stops, etc.
5. tire pressure - should have at least 35 psi on these cool mornings.
6. weight - the heavier your vehicle (whether with people or cargo), the less you get.

love my new F150 so far; great for pulling my RT188; I have to keep checking the mirrors to make sure it's still back there.

I've had mine miss/sputter, kinda lose power for a few seconds if I get on it real hard.

And humidity...most sensitive engine I've ever owned. But worth it.

I tried this about 4 weeks ago and it seems to have helped. And mileage is still good. Noticeable is less hesitation when getting into the turbo.
