I'll also add that this is the crunch time to really get into the whites.
I'll stop chasing them 2nd week of June as it just gets to hard to pattern and stay on the fish as they will be moving chasing better O2 water and bait.
And an hr or 2 before sunset is usually best for me.

Doug we do miss your knowledge and thoughts when it came to whitebass.
You were probably one of the better whitebass fisherman on the lake.

Think it's time for a reunion trip

And Pop still talks about that trip with you!

there they are :-) Thanks.

I love jigging vertically it's like no other way of fishing. You just gotta keep believing and I guess keep looking because they move a lot :-)

COE closed the dam this morning. Lots of gar were stacked up below the dam. There were a few catfish and crappie being caught.

Lake level has risen to 246 ft. 8 ft. above normal.

That kinda looks like Weldon's boat that he bought About 7-8 years ago. The guy doesn't look as old as Weldon. Lol.I know...pictures don't do it justice how close he was. Been there done that. Still doesn't beat a guy who cast across Newman's TWICE at my feet to snag my stringer of fish...accidently.

What does this pic dictate? looks like he's fishing, or ? could be releaving himself, options are open here
i think! line going out, could be an anchor or someones else line? its all relative im my book. Been fishing 50+ yrs
ive seen it all today! nothing suprise me!

Back in early 80's i caught couple smart bucks thought they were gonna cut my trotline in front of birch creek, while
we were there crappie fishing just off shore of Birch Creek, this bass fisherman and his drunk buddy decide to cut my lines,
after pulling my smith .357 and coming up to theyre boat, one guy mess his pants, dont believe he will be doing that again,
after a short education on the water!

Teach a child to fish, and you get them hooked for life! then the memories begin!

I caught some crappie on the spillway rocks this morning. About 1 in 6 were keepers. I used a pink jig head with a chartreuse plastic jig. The gar loved the pink jig head too, ugh bang

He pot licked. I was on a school of hybrids. He stayed back watching us from 100yrds out or so. After the 3rd fish he moved up and anchored where I was casting. If it were just me I probably would of blew it off. He's probably weekend fisherman and doesn't know how to locate fish. But it was my sons first hybrid trip and he was excited. So when he came by and cut us off it really ticked me
Off. I'm not an angry person but I just wanted to rip him off his boat and teach him a lesson...

Main lake was like that also. We seen hundreds of gar along the banks. Chasing shad, busting the surface.. Was wild.

Lake Level 247.32. 9.32 ft above normal. Gates are still closed.

I fished below the spillway again this morning. The crappie bite was good from 7 AM to 8:15 AM then it really slowed down. I was able to catch some much better fish this morning. I ended up with 7 keepers. About 1 in 3 keepers this morning. The bite was very light and I actually picked up a couple of keepers by just seeing line movement and not feeling a bite. I've been using the lightweight rod but I need to bring the ultralight gear next time I go. I've stuck with the 1/16 ounce pink jig head and chartreuse plastics. Just throwing it out an reeling it as slow as possible. Most of the fish were caught about 10 feet from the bank.

I tried in the afternoon yesterday but the bite was very slow.

Lake level is 248.18 ft. The lake level is still creeping up at a release rate of 919 cfs. Gates are approximately half open.

Water was creeping up at Overlook park and if it goes up another couple feet the entrance road to the boat ramp will go under water and they will have to close the boat ramp. They will also have to allow some time for the roads to dry once the water recedes so they don't get destroyed.

More heavy rains are expected on Thursday and Friday. Rain in the forecast every day for a while. It's starting to look like a repeat of last year.

J-Moe Thanks for the updates.

A request:

I hope everyone who fishes below the dam would STOP DISCARDING their buffalo, gar, or various fish they "don't want" on the banks, because: 1) It makes the place stink 2) It shows you have no respect to other life forms. If you don't eat it then release it. Simply because they inconvenience your fishing of your target species doesn't give you rights to kill them. 3) Have you noticed that the dead fish causes the propagation of buffalo flies (black flies)?
