Most of the time I use braid because I'm throwing it in the junk, now for a spook or popR in open water I use mono.

Braid....as light as you can get away with. I like Samurai for the really thin stuff and Power Pro Super Slick 8 for 50lb and 65lb.
I like the Samurai because it ties to a leader better than the coated PPSS8. Most of the time, unless directly to a Topwater, I have a Fluorocarbon leader on the smaller stuff.
I am wanting to try some of the new mono lines out for a while....just haven't had a real reason to do so, yet. This windy spring has almost got my last nerve with braid line wrap on the guides and top water lure fouling. ....almost.

Not sure how to tie a leader on to the braid... will mostly use buzz bait and yellow magic..

For walking baits like spook or KVD sexy Dawg. I also use this for Pop R's too. I like 30LB braided with a 15LB mono leader. I tie a FG knot to Connect the mono to my braid. Super strong knot. For frogs and horny toads buzz baits I throw straight 50LB braided line.

I went from braid and a 7 foot medium heavy rod to a 6 1/2 foot rod and 20 big game when fishing buzzbaits, I've been hooking a lot more fish.

Other than for frogs, I prefer mono over braid for topwater, with one exception. Big topwaters like a Super Spook etc. require braid, imo. You're making longer casts and covering more water with a spook than say a Yellow Magic. Hook-up ratio is much higher on long casts when using braid.

Berkley Trilene XL Monofilament I use the Trilene XL Monofilament for 90% of my topwater usage. The "XL" stands for extra limp, and that really rings true with this line. I feel like this particular monofilament line cats the furthest. This line is super strong as well, and it has superior knot strength. You can get a 1,000 yard spool for only $19.99 or a 330 yard spool for $7.99! Can't beat those prices!

Not sure how to tie a leader on to the braid... will mostly use buzz bait and yellow magic.. Use a Double Uni or Alberto knot. You can find them here. http://netknots.com/fishing_knots

I use McCoys Mean Green, because it is made with silicone and floats, it really helps with the topwater presentation. For frogs, I use braid, 65# Lynch line, the original braided line. If I do not have braid on and want to fish frogs, the 20# McCoys copolymer works well on horny toads and Ribbits. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.
