My Garmin map 76 will not get any closer than 50 ft of a target. The way I am testing it is getting as close to a buoy as possible and clicking on the marker button. Then letting my 76 take me back later. 50ft or more before I get back to the buoy the little screen comes up and says you are arriving at your destination. Does this meat that at this point is where the buoy is supposed to be? If so it is a long way off. I have tested several times and it has never gotten within the 3 meters like it supposed to do.
Thanks for the help

I have a garmin , it will tell me I am arriving before
I get to the point. My screen does have a reading on how far
it is to the point, If I maintain the correct heading, the counter will go down to 0 , then start increasing as I move away. I just drop a marker as the number bottoms out.

I have never tested the accuracy with a marker. My machine has several screens, some are easier to navigate by than others. My waypoints are on rather large structures , so it has never been a problem. I plan on marking some smaller targets (brushpiles) this spring so I will be relying more on the gps than I have previously.

good luck

I just bought a Garmin GPSMap 76S and love it, I did read that you have to enable the WAAS to get the 3 meter accuracy, my was disabled when I bought it, Ithink you hit menu button twice go down to setup and scroll throught the tabs should find it somewhere.

I also have the GPSMap 76S. Do make sure that the WAAS is enabled.

Also, I never use the "Go To" function. Just navigate to your GPS point and zoom in closer and closer as you get there. You should end up right on your target.

I'm guessin if you're not getting closer than 50' though, the WAAS is probably still disabled.

Thanks for bringing up this question. I got a Garmin 60CSx for Christmas. I just checked it and WAAS was not enabled. It is now enabled! Geez, now I know what some of the problems incurred were.
