Hey I'm looking at doing a camping trip in the next few weekends where I camp on the water. Looking for a smaller lake/creek so I'm less affected by weather. Also looking for a drive up Campsite where I can tent camp.
I've heard Purtis Creek but is there any other recommendations?

I second Daingerfield. Purtis is really nice as well. Cleburne state park is the next place I want to stay at. I drove through it on the way back from Ham creek a few months ago.

Cleburne is nice. We were just there a few weeks ago. Watch out for raccoons there. Mineral Wells State Park is nice.

Mineral Wells SP is beautiful. Great little lake and miles of hiking trails. Has a rock climbing area that is really the coolest thing in the park.

I was at Bonham State Park this weekend. Very small older park. I went to get out of the wind to fly fish. I would think a kayak would be ideal for that little lake. I think the gal at the entrance said the lake was 65 acres.

I also recommend Daingerfield State Park. Absolutely wonderful place to camp, fish, and swim. Ya don't have to worry about boat wakes or skiers etc. Very quiet and fun fishing lake. Also has a nice hiking trail if your into that kinda stuff.

LBJ Grasslands--the lakes got really low a few years back, but are full now.

here are three more state parks in driving distance for a weekend trip. Mineral Wells State Part Cleburne State Park Meridian State Park
Look them up and read about the size and regs.. Mineral Wells is the only small lake (in this list) that will allow power boats to get on plane and make a large wake.
three great places to fish and camp and kayak.... Have fun.
