Do any of you use a spinning reel for jig fishing? If so, I assume you use braid? If you use braid do I have to use a leader?

Not for football jigs. Skipping finesse jigs under docks, yes. And yes to braid and leader.

I use 100% fluoro to fish football jigs because on a casting rod can cast farther... thumbing slows down the reel too much for me with the braid. I also fish it in clear, deep water situations with little cover. On a spinning setup I would use leader in clear water but wouldn't bother in stained water. Cover is also a consideration for abrasion resistance (where braid really excels), grassy point versus heavy wood cover etc.

I use a spinning rod with 12 lb floro. It's deadly for finesse jigs. I'll use small pork trailers on a Texas finesse jig in the summer when the fish get real pressured. Works great. Good luck!

I cannot think of a good reason to use a spinning reel for a 3/8oz football jig

I have thrown a shaky head on spinning tackle but never a jig of any type on it.

I cannot think of a good reason to use a spinning reel for a 3/8oz football jig Some people just like spinning equipment better and others with wrist, arm, elbow or shoulder issues find it easier to use spinning tackle.
