I am planning on sneaking out and doing some bank fishing on Friday in between what looks to be a another very active weather day. I see on the TPWD website there are multiple locations on Ray Roberts that are state parks. How is the bank fishing? I obviously don't want anyone's honey hole, not that you can really have one at a state park. I will also be head up to Eisenhower State Park but as high as the lake is most of that park will be closed. I just picked up a State Park Pass and figured I would head to RR 1st before my annual fishing weekend on Texoma. I really don't target anything in particular, normally I would just be using conventional gear. However I have just started to Fly Fish and I am wanting some practice. Currently I am attempting to NOT hook myself with my fly! Any advice on RR would be awesome! TIA guys and gals! Felisa

Anywhere you see rocks in the state park should be producing. The fishing pier at isle de bois would be a good starting point. Buck creek on the north side of the lake is usually hot this time of year. Also if you take lone oak road towards the Johnson branch the second bridge is really hot right now.
Good luck

Not that I have seen yet but the crappie are pretty good right now. I'm not familiar with fly fishing gear but a minnow on a bobber has been doing well for me.

Get you a brown fly and target carp up in the flooded grass. Site casting for carp can be very fun and also very frustrating. Good luck

I think that the fishing pier at Isle du Bois is closed because of high water but you can still fish the bank near it. There is a ton of shoreline to fish on either side of the boat ramp.
Buying that park pass was a great investment!

With the park pass you have free access to all the parks and ramps on RR including the Greenbelt from RR to Lewisville. Fly fishing the RR tailrace for Sandies can be a blast.

Thanks guys! ( I assume you are all gentlemen) I will go and take a look tomorrow and will most definitely fishing anything that looks promising. I love this time of year as you never know what you will hook from the bank! Hopefully it isn't lightening the entire time. Looks like there should be breaks in-between some of the storms. The fly fishing is sounding intriguing. I have not actually caught a fish yet with my fly-rod as my hubby got it for my birthday in November. So hopefully the wind will be in my favor. I imagine if I hook a carp or something large on my fly-rod it may may ruin me. I will then only want to catch big fish!

You can also try below the dam. I have seen some nice crappie pulled out of there. I went to scope it out last Saturday night. The water was not releasing at that time.

It was a really good day on Friday. My guess was the unsettled weather had something to do with it.
At Isle du Bois I ended up with 23 bluegill and two LMB's, all on my conventional rod with a 1/64 chartreuse hair jig with a pink crappie nibbler. They were near the rocks. I did see something chasing shad. I was finally chased off by a severe storm.
Then I hit the spill way however there was no water flowing. I did see a lot of fish down there off of the wall but given the lack of oxygen they weren't looking to health. Plus that being so remote, and being a woman, I didn't want to hang out there to long alone. Lord knows I wish I didn't think that way but....
I then went to the Johnson Unit. That was very flooded. I managed one tiny bluegill before another severe storm was about to hit I finally called it a day. As someone predicted the carp were there. However due to the wicked winds trying the fly-rod was not an option.
I had a guided trip on Texoma out of Highpoint on Saturday. I caught one 8" striper but given the water conditions I am just glad I caught something. We then start catching sand bass of all things. They weren't huge but the guys in the boat seemed to have a blast. Also checked out the Denison Dam, the shad was in there so think I was foul hooking them on my lures. Never did get a bite but given the amount of food in the water I can't image the fish were hungry.
Sunday I hit up Bonham State Park. I finally caught my 1st fish on a fly-rod. It was a little LMB with three bluegills to follow. Talk about a great weekend!!
