I heard the tank did not rupture and they pumped it from the wrecked truck to a new tanker. This AM on Fox 4...

I just watched a report on wfaa's web site from their noon newscast yesterday and they said that the wreck happened on 35 at main street (south of the lake) and that the ethanol was still in the truck and was going to be pumped out into another truck.
IMO, it seems unlikely that any Ethanol will get into the lake

there was a man on the news that was at the church when it happened= he stated the fuel was pouring out on the ground in massive amounts.. so bad the fumes could be smelled where he was at(across the street). The news did not say anything about the fuel getting to the water, and the big yellow sponges were out and there was not any water's edge in the picture.

I re-read the stories on the accident yesterday and could not find a reference to the run-off from the spill going to the lake. Based on where the accident was the natural drainage would have been to the Trinity below the dam.

Since ethanol is the intoxicating ingredient in beer and whiskey, there might be some really intoxicated fish in the lake right now.
Even if it made it to into the lake I would think it would be of minimal concern because it is not a human carcinogen and should dilute quickly to a safe level.

Even if 10,000 gallons of ethanol were dumped into the lake, there would be no long-term effects and only the specific area where the contaminant was released would have any acute effects. The ethanol is infinitely soluble in water and would gradually disperse only harming fish in the direct area.
Rivers are a different story since if you dump a large quantity of toxic material into a river, it will flow downstream roughly in a concentrated plug killing a lot of fish and other stuff. It can take a river a long time to recover from that type of fish kill since the predators, prey, forage, and microbes all take a serious hit at the same time over a large area.

1000 gallons wouldn't be enough to do much of anything...except MAYBE to right where it would enter the water...
I've done experiments before where we put shiners in up to 2% ethanol...

According to the study of ecology: all animals eventually alter their own environment to a point where they cannot survive.

I wouldn't call them experiments, but I have seen goldfish swimming around in an acidic solution composed of 10% ethanol, 5% sugar, trace flavors, and water. They seemed fine.
