from reading over the state regulations, it looks as though it is legal to castnet carp. It also looks like its legal to gig em with a spear or pole.. since the gig/spear part wasnt as sure on the website and in the manual, was wondering what you all think. Cant get ahold of a GW to save my life... been trying for past month and Im assuming they dont respond since my cell is a 727 area code.

Not my normal place to reply but a lot of folks me included don't kill my carp. Too fun to catch. Not judging but that may be why no response. May wanna try a bow fish site.

thanks for the info. my main reason for asking is to change up bait use so I dont have to hammer the shad too hard where I fish.. 1 small carp can give me enough bait for the day instead of the amount of shad Id need.

You can catch carp however you want. Cast net, hook and line, whatever. They are smart and fast not likely to gig them. Best bet is hook and line for most folks.

you can cast net them but its difficult. you need to be in the right place and have the right net(7foot and heavy, mine is double weight)

When I'm wanting to cast net a few, I walk a concrete bridge in the evening and find them right on the edge with their backs out of the water. Easy targets.

Maybe it's just my preference, but I respect carp/buffalo just the same I respect bass. Too much fun to catch just to kill. I plan on catfishing this weekend and plan to buy my bait from the Asian market. It's like a bait buffet in there!!

thanks for all the replies guys. caught one in a castnet because I wanted to try a recipe out. wont be castnetting them again since they get so tangled up with the fin spikes that have teeth on em.... if the recipe is good, I'd just fish em since I dont trust gig'ng them without an injured fish getting away...
