Went down to the slip early this morning right at day light to fish a little before going home. Nobody else there but me. I was being real quit and when I got on the pontoon boat I was going to reach over and get a minnow out of the minnow bucket in the water. I just happened to see something o it. I thought it was a stick. Wrong it was a snake wrapped around it ! A big old water mosican. It would have bitten me if I had reach in with my hand. Be careful out there ,it is that time of year.

When I was a kid my grandfather told me to run down to the boat and grab his fish basket full of crappie. As I reached over to pull it in i opened the lid and began to stick my hand in to look at the fish, I noticed a huge snake inside the basket. I quickly dropped it back in the water and ran off screaming for my grandpa. He went back down and grabbed the basket. It was a large cotton mouth that had somehow gotten in the basket and had eaten most of the fish. after eating the fish he was too large to get back out of the basket and had susequently drown himself. I had no idea he was dead but I sure did poo my pants!

I got to a dock the other day out here at Possum Kindgom, went to set my tools on the table to start uncovering the boat to do some service work to it, and I look down and there is about a 5-6'er laying on the chair... I jumped back, set my tools down and couldn't find anything around to kill it or knock it off the dock with... While I am looking around the dock, the snake crawls onto the boat on top of the cover... then it went under the cover so I got my stuff and headed out. Becareful uncovering your boats, you might find a friend

Some really big water snakes and cottonmouths at Pk. One branch of Neely Slough is referred to as "The Snake leg" by my wife and her kayak friends.

Yep, the winter was very mild in Texas. Snakes are hungry and on the prowl.

Two years ago on Lewisville I was next to some boat house docks fishing, there was this 4" round PVC pipe sticking out the side of the boat house. My line got snagged on a metal bracket. Trolled up to it to remove it. tap tap on the sheet metal siding and about 40 snakes come pouring out of this pipe. bunch of 12" babies and momma. My god! they were all trying to surface into the boat. That rod became a wiping post stick. I got the hell out of there fast.

I really dig snakes and always have but if theres one I dont care for its cotton mouths. Most snakes wont bother you unless you step on them or screw with them, not cotton mouths! Always trying to climb in my kayak or my boat, super aggressive.

I killed a copperhead in my pool after the first big round of rain last week. It was about 16" long and was almost completely buoyant, looked like it was laying on a plate of glass.

Never had that happen in 15 years, guess it got confused by the heavy rain and took a wrong turn.

I saw a copperhead Friday afternoon swimming in a lake I was fishing. I had never seen one in the water before. Buoyant? I'll say - it looked like it was swimming on glass. Absolutely beautiful colors, too.

Sometimes baby cottonmouths are colored like a copperhead...either way, be careful...
