Rick and I fished this afternoon at Lewisville from 2:30 - 7:00 PM and caught fish steadily until 6 when they quit totally.
Caught and released 53 fish total. Majority of them were small males but a dozen or so were nice females.
Brushpiles in 14' were holding lots of fish but best action came casting Roadrunners in 6' along clean gravely banks. Black/white w/red head or yellow worked. (Only colors we tried) I prefer Marabou.
Can't wait for tomorrow.

How about them Road runners! Yesterday, roadrunners were getting all the action in the boat...if you didn't have one on, it showed, because you just weren't catching any fish...Oh yea, thanks again for the suggestion Ernest...Your a hero for pointing it out at exactly the right time...

Sounds like a fun afternoon, and I am with you on the marabou. But the last year or so I do use a lot of plastic. Good Fishing

I love/hate spring fishing. Yesterday over 50, today 10, same area, same lures.

Probably a noob question here but I'm going to ask anyways, how do you fish the road runner for crappie? Under a bobber or slow no bobber and slow reeling? Thanks

Two ways I know that are productive #1 When fishing Structure such as Bridge Pilings,CatTails or standing timber, fish it with a vertical presentation just like a Jig up & down varying your depths in the water column until you get bit.#2 Pitch it around Bridge Pilings or Standing timber while counting down thousand one ,thousand two etc and retrieve until you get bit.Remember when you think you are fishing it slow ,slow down even more.

Probably a noob question here but I'm going to ask anyways, how do you fish the road runner for crappie? Under a bobber or slow no bobber and slow reeling? Thanks Keep trying different retrieves until something works. Try to remember what you were doing when you got a strike. #1 My first and most used retrieve: cast out and let the lure sink on a tight line until line goes slack (lure is on bottom). Gently lift rod to about two o'clock position, hold there and let lure sink on tight line until it is on bottom again. Lower the rod and take up slack and repeat until lure is directly below boat. I don't reel lure thru the water at all with this retrieve. Most strikes occur as the lure sinks back to the bottom. (Hard to describe but easy to demo) #2 Cast out and let the lure sink on a tight line until line goes slack (lure is on bottom). slowly reel the lure in, dragging it on the bottom. (lure stays on the bottom) You lose a few lures but it works at times. You usually don't feel the strike, lure just gets heavy. #3 Cast out and let the lure sink on a tight line until line goes slack (lure is on bottom). retrieve at steady speed. Try different speeds until you find one that the Bass and Sandbass like best. Good luck.
