I am not much of a jig fisherman and I got this jig years ago. I finally decided to stick with it on a day that I knew the fish were biting and I started to catch some on this jig. But I got it hung up and lost it and I don't have another this size. I want more but I can't for the life of me figure out what brand it is.

I have a 3/4 ounce one like that as well. I loved the smaller 1/4 ounce one. It was hand tied with wire, big stiff hook. And I love this color.

I've always heard good things about Santone jigs. I may try them out.

Take a look at the Billy Mac jig from Talon fishing. Texas folks who hand make and wire tie every jig. Very high quality and they work very well.

That is a jig from a mold called a "Poison tail" jig. Its a pretty common head design. Joey at Flatlands Custom Tackle makes a jig with that head, also Dirty Jigs makes that head design, you can google both brands. I would second the recommendation to have Kathy match the color if the color is only what you're after. The poison tail is a good looking head design that comes through cover great, however I would suggest going to another head. While it looks good and fishes good, it will turn on the hookset often, because of the narrow head design. If a fish has the jig closed mouthed, the jig head will turn when it hits their lips once in a while. They end up with the hook threaded through the skin sideways instead of through the roof of their mouth.

Dirty Jig

It's a jig, they all work basically the same. Although you think there was something special about that jig, there really wasn't. Go buy yourself some cheap or expensive ones in watermelon and you'll catch the same number of fish that you would have on that one.

All jigs are not created equal.

But hooks are not equal. Head shapes and line ties are not all the same. Also a good hand tied skirt as well as a good trailer keeper all help a ton. Not all jigs are created equal. That is why I make my own.

Yeah, there's different head shapes and that one is not made for trees. You cannot say they will hit one watermelon jig over another though (unless your throwing football heads in the rocks). It's all in your head and your head gives you confidence. I've caught bass on the cheapest walmart renegade jigs made and I've caught them on overpriced jigs too. A jig is a jig, some just give you more confidence.


I absolutely don't blame you for making your own though, I think that would be very fun and it would be a rewarding feeling.

I use different skirt ties for different reasons. Depends on how I want the skirt to flare. There are a lot of variables when it comes to a fish biting a jig to several fish chomping a jig.

Ok, you have my interest. What kind of different skirt ties are there? I hate the rubber o-ring that falls apart. I've been taking tiny zip ties and cinching the skirts on. Lately I've even been using spinner bait skirts (like the terminator quick change skirts), they have a bit too much flare for my liking; but they have been working.
