Went to the 66 bridge near the log jam yesterday and got two yellow bass using jig/fluke.

I think I will skip that area for now since there are so many snakes around.

The fish in RC have been picked pretty clean of keepers since the last rain. Fish are still there and they're willing to bite with all of the bigger fish being found in the pockets that are off the beaten path. Rain should bring in fresh fish and probably a big wave of mags and hybrids especially with the gates at Lavon finally closed. Hopefully we get a big rain so we get lots of fresh fish.

I was thinking the same thing last night. Was filleting the sandbass I caught and the fillets were kinda gray, almost a little brown. Haven't caught any sandbass anywhere else in a long time, so I'm not sure if that's abnormal, but I thought I noticed they taste different. I prefer crappie though and know they will taste different than them. I almost took pictures and posted while I was filleting them about the color.

Sandbass always taste funny to me. Honestly they might have just been dead for a little too long on the stringer while you were fishing, I've had that happen before with other species.

Sandies always taste like the creek. I've noticed that the hybrids have the same strong odor this year which I really didn't notice much the previous years.

Taste may depend on how long they've been in the creek, and what percentage of the creek water is from water treatment plants.

I won't eat crappie out of Creek X again...tasted like a water treatment plant smells...

i don't eat the sand bass for 10 years .but i knew about the creek fish and lake fish what different before.why?because after the rain fish come by the creek .they stay with muddy water .so they taste like mud.if you catch fish from lake they taste sweet that's why they taste different!and after done fishing must be fix them the right way keep them fresh . bow_down

I'll be doing all catch and release from RC from now on, probably. I catch enough crappie from the lake for a few meals here and there for the family.

Agreed MrNovice, they look and fight like normal sandies, but the fillets have a gasoline smell and taste when you cook it, which weren't there in previous years. I tried soaking them in salt water, didn't help much.

Really still fun to catch though!

You got that right bro! There is nothing like it throughout the year, love the frenzy!! Although I haven't caught many this year, like Nick said, hoping the rain the next couple of week will bring in another round of big mammas!! banana

dont eat the fish caught at RC, let them finish the spawn and return back to the lake, go get them.
