Its still pretty great. One tip that I learned out there in the spring. Take 5-6 inch sassy shad plastics/swim baits in shad color(black back light belly). Even cheap mister twister shad plastics. 1/16 wide gap jigheads. The shad usually stack up out there that time of year and the trout are killing them. One time I was selling them for 5 bucks a piece. Have fun. And if you see birds working get to them if you want to fight bull reds and jacks. Its fun for awhile but we stopped doing it(30 minutes per fish on light tackle) b/c it cuts out on your trout fishing time, and that's my favorite. Also if you don't catch anything in the morning don't worry, usually afternoons with big tide movement is great. Also if it seems dead in the morning try to find a little spoil island and fish for reds and wait for the tide to start and then trout fish. Hope this helps at all. good luck.

A buddy of mine just got back. Took his dad there. They caught a lot of overslot reds on flies.

I havent been in years, but used to go out about twice a year. It's always changing, I can tell you that much. One day an island is there...and a storm blows through and it's gone....but a new one is peeking over the waves.
One of my friends took 180 stitches on his leg from a shark bite one year. Thought we were going to lose him on the trip back. We were slaughtering the fish that day too. Every one of us were bumped or harassed by the sharks that day...so we decided to ease back to the boat. Some guys let go of their stringers, it got so bad.
I love those islands. Might make it back this summer. Once you go, you're hooked for life, if it's anything like it used to be.
Now, Donald...please pick John Bolton for your running mate.

Sorry to hear about your buddy... I've seen videos with sharks stealing wade fishermans stringers out there.thanks for the info No problem. He was lucky. Another died when a lightening strike hit our antenna ( or jumped from the water to it, we dont know which) several years later. He wasnt so lucky. Use a LONG stinger with a float, a slip knot and carry a sheathed knife on your belt.
Now, Donald...please pick John Bolton for your running mate.

The islands aren't going to take to many more hurricanes before there gone. Big debate in NOLA. Should they restore the island (yes) or do more for fresh water diversion.
