So me and the wife are going to Gibbons Creek for the second time tomorrow. No boat so we'll be from the bank and really only targeting bass. Was wondering where some decent spots from the bank are to check out or what to look for or throw. It's unlike the lake I grew up on (Canyon Lake), so it's kinda hard for me to figure it out.

My usual tactic on new water is the throw rattletraps till I find the fish and then experiment but I only caught one drum last time doing that in the water below the dam.

Also was wondering if you can drive left on the gate, away from the dam and boat ramp, and fish the point and cove over there.

You must continue and drive over the dam after turning left from the gate. You can walk (hike) there if instead you continued driving straight after passing the gate and park below the dam just before the spillway. The cove areas you speak of if reached by foot does have bass holding in lilly pads but is overgrown and snakey and your casts to deeper water beyond the pads will be very limited. The rocky points for me have not held bass lately and have some quite aggressive diamodback water snakes in the rocks.

If on foot with my wife, I would simply park at the ramp and work the shoreline mown banks and adjacent stump fields/pads between the launch ramp and the dam you just drove across which have been holding a few nice ones. The restroom and shade trees are there too. If you drag a bottom lure you might be able to find the couple spots within cast distance with submerged grass and they will have a nice bass or two.

I'm looking at a map and it looks like if you turn left at the gate then a left, instead on going toward the dam, there's a dirt road that leads down to a point.

That road is to one of the two old plant employees boat ramps and a sign informs drivers that the road is closed to park visitor traffic....but you can probably walk (hike)there if you park at the spillway.

Ah I see. I also notice on maps at the spillway parking lot there's a trail that goes north across the road
out onto a little point... Any idea if that's a good area for bass or whatnot?

I spoke of that and other rocky points above. Usually has several bank anglers looking for catfish but mostly is just beer guzzlers spending a day on the lake....rocky point used to have crappie too but though it has cast access to deepest waters in reservoir, it has never been that good for bass for me. Bass are in cove's pads and nearby stumps.
