Just got back from there. Fished the rapids pool and above up to the next rapids. Minnows, curly tails, roadrunner, rooster tail. Caught 2 keeper and one dink all on minnows. The other two boats there had similar reports. A sad report.

One of those boats was mine. We talked over the water a bit.
We were on the water at the BC of dawn. We pulled over the first set of Rapids and went up to the second set. We worked down from there. We tried live bait a few times but only caught a couple of small black bass on live bait, no whites. We caught 9 keepers total with 2 being females. 2 throwbacks. Caught half casting and the other half on the troll using the trolling motor. All caught on size 07 Rapala Floating Minnows, silver foil, which is my go to bait on the river, especially when things are tough. All caught upstream of the big white mansion on the right going up.
I went last Thursday with similar results. Everyone I talked to on the water last Thursday and today all said basically the same thing. A very spotty and week white bass run. I saw No spawning activity last week or today, that being the males surrounding the females and doing their flutter swim. Hopefully next year the water will be up and flowing again and things will be better.
The river was beautiful and it was just great to be on it fishing for the whites again after so many years.

Well Doctor, it was a pleasure meeting you and the Missus. I'll be looking for you next year, unless we get another of those "Limit, Limit, Limit" reports we talked about. Yea...Right!

It was great to meet you too WG. My wife does go fishing every once in a while, but that was my sister in the boat. She is a hard core fisherman and loves it as much as I do. We have a lot good times on the water. Here's a few pics I took yesterday and last Wednesday. I'll be reflecting on these until this time rolls around again next year. These start right before the rock boat ramp and ends on the pool above the 2nd rapids upstream. Last pic was our take yesterday which made some fine fish chowder last night. Fingers crossed for tight lines at the rapids next year ! See you there !

Oops. Again assuming got me in trouble. It's so funny Doc. Because after I sent the post, I briefly thought " My gosh, I hope I didn't get that man in trouble. I hope that was his wife or at least if not his wife doesn't see the post." Whew! It's good that you have fishing partners. I usually have to fish by myself. Beautiful pics.

Beautiful pictures! I love that river and hope that the lake level and flows continue so that we'll start seeing some strong white bass runs in years to come.
Just one more cast!

Fished Canyon Tues-Thursday. Went up river to the rapids Tuesday evening and could not find one single white using minnows. Not sure if they are up there anymore. On a bright note, the crappie are starting to get real good in coves, we found them in coves in about 10 feet of water suspended in the old tree branches, evenings were best, with minnows. Blues are crazy good jugging or drifting fresh cut perch. We were in the westward cove at the rivers mouth near the fishing dock all 3 days and did very well with blues, most in the 5 - 8 lb. range.

Glad you can find some Crappie. I've tried several times but they keep eluding my minnows and jigs. I also tried the cove you mentioned, but no luck. Fished from very shallow to 30 feet. Caught only one nice white. I'm going to try soon at night with a green light. That's the only way I've ever been able to get any. Thanks for the report. I think the brief white run is over.

Great pics.
How far up past Rebecca Creek is that?
BTW, I was out there last Thursday evening and the white bass were stacked at the mouth of the river. Since I wasnt fishing for them, they were a bit of a nuisance. They were busting the surface all over. Additionally, a bunch of guys fishing the Thursday night tournament caught many many white bass on crankbaits on secondary points on the main lake.

I have seen the mouth of the river mentioned several times. Where is the mouth that everyone is talking about? Is it the area west of the cranes mill road point where it really narrows down or is it east of the cranes mill point towards the main lake?

The "mouth of the river" I refer to is west of Cranes Mill, where you start seeing all the standing trees.

The rapids are before Rebecca Creek Well I meant if heading from the main lake. I usually put in at the main lake (Canyon Lake Marina) and run up to Rebecca Creek or a mile or 2 past it. I've never seen those rapids so was wondering how much further it was.

When you ask about Rebecca Creek, are you referring to the Rebecca Creek Ramp # 11? I thought you were asking how far past the rapids is Rebecca Creek road which crosses the river above the rapids. If so, the rapids are about 5 miles or so upriver from ramp 11.
