has anyone ever hired a guide and not catch very many fish and if so what happens? I mean sometimes the fish just don't cooperate, dew weather conditions, and different situations That we can not control. I would be a little disappointed if I hired a $350-$450 Guide and only caught just a few. Do you get a refund? Do you get a free trip? What happens?

Yep! Fishing is fishing with or without a guide. Maybe I am weird but I never hire a guide thinking that I will have some extraordinary day on the water, or so I can go back and fish their spots, I hire them to learn from them. I usually have some sort of technique in mind that I want to learn and the day we zeroed, we hired someone on Toledo to teach us how to fish grass with a big jig. I learned a ton but we did not boat a fish which was probably more rookie jig fisherman's fault than the guides . This was a few years back when Toledo wasn't fishing like it is right now and I didn't mind one bit paying for the trip or tipping the guide!
See you on the lake and have a great day!

Booked a saltwater guide once, and we never caught a fish. It wasn't for his lack of trying. He made the trip enjoyable enough, that I didn't mind paying.

Just because he is a guide does not guaranty you anything.

Happened to me a couple of times...pay up...shake his hand and thank him for what I learned and working his butt off...then book another trip.

I have done trips without fish being caught. It doesn't happen often but when it does i always work something out. Depending on the client. If they were skilled anglers and we just zeroed. I would offer a free whole day trip. If they were beginners i would offer a free half day and make sure that i set the way we fish. Often they say they are good only to see that it wasn't so. When people state the level of exceptions i always try to fish them to there stated level. Also i want to point out that i don't fish. The only way i would fish is if things got nasty and i needed to see why they were not biting. Just my .02

Yes Sir; twice I have fished with guides and zeroed out on Lake Fork. Once I zeroed at Falcon,,,,,,,,,,,, But then at Falcon, Bassin Billy Tompkins" put me on my PB 4 times in one day & fishing in the same waters as the Bass Champs event that day. My 3 fish total would have been second place in the BC event. That is now why I fish the Bass Champs.... you never know.........

I have. I didn't get a refund. I actually tipped him. He worked his tail off. He was even calling other guide friends while we were fishing, trying to find anyone on fish. We went in for lunch, 4-5 other guides with clients were there eating as well. None of them had caught a single fish either.
We ran to probably 15 different spots and tried probably 20 different techniques between us both. No fish. I had a great day. I learned a lot about fishing rather than just catching fish on a "hot spot." We fished a season pattern and fished from 30ft up to the bank...I've even won money off of one of his spots about a month later.
Going on a trip and staying open minded will always allow you to have a great trip no matter what.

OH,,,,, this is why I am an advocate for paying for results. expenses plus: Guide takes you to the "good spots" & puts you on good fish,,, you pay well for it. Not so good results = not so good of a daily fee............ this is just my opinion & why I am very selective about the guides I use. The only way I get paid is by producing,,,,,,nothing wrong with that. I know, Iknow ........

Friend and I hired a guide on Chambers back in the 90's. We showed up and the wind was blowing and the weather kinda sucked. We had a tourney coming up and he took us out for a couple of hours and showed us some areas and didn't charge us a dime! We still gave the guy a $100 and appreciated his time!

My wife and I hired a guide on Fork several years ago in November, 2 fish in the boat on a full day trip and the guide caught one of em. I would have been totally ok with leaving it at that, I mean its fishing right? Well he didn't have a trip booked for the next day so he took us back out for an additional half day at no charge. Great guide and an ever better guy, would book him again without hesitation.
