I use braid on jigs and plastics and fcarbon or mono on cranks, but what about top waters, spinner baits and chatter bait? Is there a common knowledge about when braid vs mono or floro?

I use braid for topwaters, spinnerbait, and chatterbaits. I only use flouro on my wacky rig and shakey head rods. I haven't used mono in years

Ok thanks for the advice. I kept on feeling like the braid gave me added feel and no stretch and is just tougher but I heard one time that I shouldn't use it on my crank bait rods because it might make a noise in the water? I have been using line other than braid only begrudgingly.

poppers and walking baits use 12-17lb mono because it floats (for the most part) and has some stretch for keeping those treble hooks in there.
for frogs, horny toads, and rats I use 50-65lb braid, mainly due to the cover those lures get thrown and pulled into. No stretch means you gotta be patient when they blow up on your baits.
for spinnerbaits, chatters, bladed swim jigs, and buzzbaits I recommend 14-20lb mono, copolymer, or flouroflex (blend of flouro and copolymer).
I think it's worth mentioning that flouro can play a huge role with your jigs and plastics, too- so don't get married to using braid that much. It works great until the stained water turns gin clear and the fish take all day looking at your baits.

I use braid for topwater but stay with flouro or mono for spinners and chatterbaits.
