I just bought my first bass boat which is a 2007 Ranger Z20. It's sitting in my driveway and I sometimes accidentally turn things on and I can't figure out how to turn them off. For example, I stepped on the bow up/down trim control tonight which also caused the keypad to light up and the stereo to turn on. On the keypad by the steering wheel I press and hold down the red "stop" button but nothing turns off. I have the batteries plugged up to the charger tonight. I thought it would turn off by itself, but I just went out after 2 hours and the stereo and bow controls are still on. Anyone know how to turn these off?? I am scared I will get a dead battery from this nonsense.

It's when I hit any of these buttons. Or any of the buttons on the driver keypad. Pushing them again doesn't turn off the electronics. I can hear clicking under my motor which I suspect is my Garmin sonar? I equate this to putting your key in the ignition in your car and turning it but not cranking it.

I figured it out. Type the code THEN press the stop button.

On a Ranger with digital dash, once you turn it ON, it stays ON until you turn it OFF. It will, however, go into SLEEP mode if no buttons are pushed for six hours. In SLEEP mode it will still draw power for the digital dash, and some things such as a bilge pump or touching any key will wake it up.
Essentially, you've never been turning your boat off. It's like leaving the power switch turned on - electronically - unless when done fishing, you enter the code and then STOP.
Call Ranger and get an owner's manual!
