I just bought a 20 acre homestead that is covered in nettles and seems to be the primary ground cover. The ground is sand so I need to be careful of wiping out all the plant life so I don't have an erosion problem. The previous owners raised horses on the property so it never looked mowed just worn down, would excessive mowing help reduce the nettle and allow the grasses a chance to make a come back?

Call a professional herbicide applicator to spray that place. Local feed store can probably help you if they do it or knows someone that does.

Bush hog it. Then strap a bottle of Round Up on the riding mower and spray what comes back when you mow. I had Round Up on one side and Amdro on the other side when we cleared our lot.

42D I believe is what I used last year. Got it at Tractor Supply and knocked them right out.

If it's regular stinging nettles, EAT THEM. They're absolutely delicious. Boil them with a little butter and pepper or bacon grease and pepper and they're wonderful. I would love to find someplace that would allow me to harvest them.
