I have to agree with Timmychanga. noidea LOL

Also, the fish in questioned are designed by mother nature. Just slightly tweaked by man in good intentions. So of course they will have eggs grin

Good research. And that's exactly why TP&W refuses to stock hybrids or allow the private stocking of hybrids on Lake Livingston. Their state wide stocking program depends on those pure strain stripers below the dam...and some biologists believe there is possibly DNA strains of the expired Gulf striped bass that was part of a strong commercial fishing program back in the day.

Livingston would be the absolute perfect hybrid lake but it will never happen.

Hybrids have been known to have very limited repro for many years, nothing new here.

Hate to break it to the good folks at TP&W but all those hybrids that wash out of Richland Chambers and Cedar Creek end up in Livingston. I'm sure the numbers are small enough that they pose little threat. They are in Livingston though.

Oh yes, they are in Livingston. I've caught hybrids at Lock and Dam in the Trinity river, all over the main lake, and below the dam. Depending on rainfall rates, at times they are present in very good numbers and size.

In fact, the hybrids below the dam are arguably as large as any in the State.

This year, there may be more hybrids than ever before in Livingston in the past due to all the run off. I'll certainly be doing a lot of "sampling"

The very nature of how the whitebass/hybrid free spawn puts both types of fish and both sexes in the same place at the same time. It is a huge orgy with eggs and spunk freely flowing so even if the odds are 10k to 1 that the two mix successfully there are billions of eggs for that to happen. The next question is to what extent does the F2 (second generation) hybrid/whitebass/whitebass spawn. The F1 (first generation) hybrid vigor (high growth rate) diminishes quickly and by the 3rd generation is mostly absent but the broken lines and other hybrid characteristics are still present. At Lake Somerville where hybrids have been stocked since the 70's you are hard pressed to catch a normal looking whitebass. They are big and healthy but you better look twice at the ones in the 16inch plus size!
