I am like a lot of guys and after the spawn, it seems like I have a hard time finding them. I just got a Martin's map so I hope that helps. I am semi retired and I am going to try to hit that lake more this spring/summer so if anybody ever wants to go along, you are welcome to.

Raybob, she's fishing just fine to me! I lost a super fatty!! She was so fat she could barely get her head out of the water to head shake.

There used to be an older man in what looked like a homemade foam raft. You'd see him up in wolf and Indian a lot. He caught the dickens out of them. If he wasn't catching them you might as well pack up and go home. He'd milk an area for all it had.

I have both. I have to disagree as nothing is more relaxing than the kayak in quiet cove on a noiseless day. That being said, you can't shoot across the lake to find another spot at 50MPH. They each have pros and cons.

The foam craft was a water wagon. The guy had a small trolling motor but wore flippers to maneuver around. Always had a jig on one rod and a buzz bait or spinner on another.he was in Indian or Wolf every spring. Used to tie up beside him vist while we ate lunch. Always told my customers to watch him and learn how to fish every available bit of cover. Wish l could remember his name. He was a great fisherman and fun to visit with.

Two friends fish it from the bank regularly, say it is just so "fishy" looking all over that it makes it deceptive as so many areas look like they should hold bass.

And, they say, at least from the bank, that it is not a "numbers" lake but a lake where when you do catch a fish, it can be a really big one.

They go out a time or two a year with guide, Dannie Golden, on his boat and he puts them on both big fish and numbers.

On a lake like that, it likely helps a lot to have a pro dial you in on best locations and the right tackle for the time of year, circumstances.

On a forum set up for Bill Wilcox to answer questions posed to him, one person asked if he ever got "skunked." Wilcox said that while he usually figures out a way to at least catch a couple, but yes, he has been skunked in the sense that it takes 6 bass to make a show for Honey Hole.

As I recall, he said he has failed to do so only 5 or so times. I recall him mentioning that this happened to him twice on Texoma (one time was a really rough weather issue) and he mentioned Ray Roberts for another "miss." I can't recall the others . . . maybe PK and another.

Anyway, Wilcox knows Ray Roberts really well, tells stories about how various spots got their names and so forth.

If he has had a rough time on it, it might indicate to everyone else how very tough that lake can be.

It's tough when it's cold, so I have simply leaned to going to other lakes till it gets warm enough. Ben going south and east and catching 15 to 20 fish every trip even in this wind. I don't start those numbers on RR till April. It's getting close and it will soon be awesome, the lake had an awesome spawn last year and with the water up high this year, the next couple of years will really be great. I had a couple of 50 fish days on RR last year, and that hasn't happened for me in a long time up there, so don't give up on it. I know there were over 80 high schools teams that got skunked last weekend, just let them know it does much better in April, May and June.

I was there last Friday for the first time in 20 years. It was tough but it was a nasty day after a cold front, misting and raining with temps not getting out of the 50's so it didn't concern me too much. We caught 6-7 small fish but did more scouting than fishing.
I will be back at it this Friday and Saturday trying to put a plan together for the upcoming Champs tourney.
