Has anyone been to this lake? I plan on going camping and fishing next Thursday and was wondering how "fishable" is the state park area from the bank? Also, how far is the lake from the camping/picnic area? Any other information will be appreciated.

State Park: There is an area adjacent to the launch ramps, either side, where people fish from the bank, mainly catfish. Further out, on the left hand side looking out from the ramps, people also wade/swim. You can drive down there and set up a canopy. It's several hundred yards from the camping area. I have also seen people wade fishing on the State Park Cove side, to the right (North) of the camping area, and you could possibly catch some bass there. There is also an area near the Zapata county ramp where you could fish from the bank and catch some fish; near the ramp, and to the right of the ramp. Hope this helps! Oh, and there are also shelters on the South side of the State Park for rent. I would call the park before going, you probably need to make reservations for the camping areas. see http://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/falcon

Falcon State Park has a lot of bank access to the water. The deepest being in the cut to the boat ramp. Lots of shallow water access on both sides of the ramp. A lot of this water is infested with trees and brush.. Good bass habitat.. Wade fishing can be productive. Watch for snakes if you are traversing the brush along the unbeaten path.. Catfish are usually easy to catch in the boat ramp ditch..
Camp sites and shelters are walkable from the fishing areas.. You can also drive down to the waters edge at several areas..
Good Luck!

Why not buy you a float tube and get off the bank. If you think it is to cold, then buy some waders. You would be surprised much better the fishing is on the outside of the brush line then trying to cast to the edge of the brush from the bank. 200 bucks and you will be in a much better place to catch fish. You would be able to cover three times as much water in a tube then bank fishing. And you would be able to cast shallow and pull to deeper water while fishing. That is a plus too at times. Good Luck

A few years age I saw a local with three blacks on a stringer caught on the gravel bottom cut going to the ramp that were like a 5-3-3 that were headed for the grease. The locals fish all around there and that should say something. Sometimes there are several of them fishing there at one time. Some on the lake side some on the ramp cut some on the point. Must be productive are they would not keep coming back.I see locals on the South side of the dam fishing so I would think you could fish off the rocks on the usa north dam side. I use a boat and catch bass off the rocks on the same North dam. The dam is close to the park. Live bait should work well. There are snakes around the brush down there. Just saying.
TAKE A PHOTO HOME NOT THE FISH. CATCH AND RELEASE Set the hook first and ask questions later.

You probably have a fishing license, but you won't need it fishing from the bank in the State Park. No license required.

Shelters in state park. Taken 3 or 4 years ago when the lake was very low. Lots of folks driving on down closer to waters edge and fishing along banks. State Park ramp.
