Do pinfish work as bait? I've sure been catching a lot of them lately. Will fish like redfish eat them?

they work real good. the 2" ers seem best to me. also i cut the dorsal fin down about 1/2 way to make it struggle more. hook it thru the tail.

The smaller the better. In some cases, they're as effective as live mullet. The redfish hammer them if they're schooled up.

For specks yeah. They are not as good as piggy perch but the specks do eat them.

Both. and up to 3 inches for me.. just depends on the size of fish you are around.
I've also used them 'cut' for redfish. not as good as mullet, pogey, or ladyfish, but they'll do the job in a pinch.

I'll say they work. Last May I caught my largest surf trout ever at 29 inches on a live pinfish. I had been casting spoons, twitch baits and soft plastics to no avail, so I decided to try a different rod with live bait and a fish finder rig. I caught a 4 inch pinfish on a little spinning rig I carry for just such occasions. After fifteen minutes or so, that Abu 6500 line alarm was singing. That was the largest trout I have caught on a live pinfish, but not the first. I will not hesitate to use them if I don't have any live finger mullet or croaker.
