I'd pay $10 to fish Athens. But I don't think that's gonna keep people from going. I'd pay $20 if someone would open the restaurant back up so I can have my bottomless beans again...

I am going to Toledo Bend for the rest of the week and worry at all that I'm not a LOCAL, and luckily they businesses people around there don't seem to mind either. Life is too short to be a grumpy person.

I don't think anyone complains about folks fishing Athens,,,,,I'll give anyone my "local" advice on Athens. My PM box is full of folks asking. I fish it 3-4 days a week. Not that I have ever caught any of those "Monsters" people talk about but it is a fun lake to fish, especially when I can get out there in 5 minutes and park where I want to and fish where I want to. The problem is just deciding "where" to fish since there are so many good spots. There are still a couple of spots that some people do not know about.so,,,,,,,back to Frank's post and my post:

There you go...."truth".
This lake is not just an automatic 25# bag of fish.
That's why living only 5 minutes from the lake is nice, I can run out and in 1 hour tell you at what level the fish are biting.
when they are "on" it is really a fun lake to fish.
when they are "off" it is just like any other off lake,,,,,you go home saying wtf.
Luckily, I don't have far to drive and I can do some "chores".
we'll see what they are doing on Wednesday.......before the cold front comes in.

"Weekend Warriors"? Does mean "somebody with a real job"? Guess being a firefighter that has the schedule that allows me to avoid weekends excludes me from being a "weekend warrior"? :-) Yes, Athens has been a good/great(often) lake for me for the last 30yrs. And because its small, easy to run, beautiful....a bad day @ Athens is often better then a slow day somewhere else.

I live 20 min from the ramp at Roberts and drive to Athens several times a year for a change of scenery and because I love to fish grass. It also helps that we have always caught at least a few fish and usually one or two good ones each time we go. I appreciate the local guys that report here regularly, it at least gets us in the ballpark when we go down there. If any of you Athens guys want to come to Roberts, I will gladly try to return the favor and share a few spots and techniques or heck I would even meet you at the lake on a Saturday if I am available. I fish for fun and sanity(I have a stressful job)not for money so it doesn't bother me to share, they are public lakes.

See you on the lake and have a great day!

Yall are a trip. You want to keep your lake to yourself, yet yall keep making posts about the lake on a worldwide forum. You do know it'll keep going to the top of the page every time you post on it. Let it slide on out of here.

The Internet will ruin many lakes due to big mouths
