Really wanting to learn Benbrook to catch some hybrids and crappie this year. I've tried numerous times with it being close to the casa and have yet to pull out a fish. I've fished EM quite a bit and usually have moderate success on the kayak or brother in laws pier with white bass and catfish.
Any tips on where to put in at or how to target these suckers would be greatly appreciated!

The Marina, Mustang Creek, and Holiday Park were all open a few weeks ago. $5 entry usually. My biggest piece of advise for hybrids would be to stay by the dam. That is a very tough lake in general. So don't get your hopes up haha.
One guy told me when it was 15+ feet low for a while it killed the fishing and may take a while to recover now that it's high again.

Being low killed the fishing?? That makes no sense. Caught some very nice bass, hybrids, sandies out there when the lake was low both from the Bank and kayak. IMO it made finding the fish much easier. Buddy of mine even caught a DD bass from the bank out by the dam when it was low. The lake being high is probably what "killed" the fishing. now they are more spread out. Just my .02

If you don't have a key to Baja Beach go to the Benbrook City Hall and pick one up. They are about $25 a year for the key. Once inside the gate you can drive right to the Westside of the dam. It is a easy place to launch and you are right at the base of the dam.

I was at Mustang Park on Saturday afternoon. Had some success last year catching crappie in that area in late March/early April when the lake was about 3ft low before the heavy rains. Saturday it was about 3 ft high. There are a lot of trees and stumps just off shore but with the lake 3ft high only a few stick out above water level. I didn't have any bites Saturday but that might be because I was fishing too deep (at spots that of course were much shallower last year) or the week of rain took the bite off. I did hear second hand of people hitting the sandies pretty good up Rocky Creek a short ways.

Lots a nice fish in Benbrook. But it is known to b a tuff lake. Buy a map. Study the contours and depths. Creeks should be good right now. Also sugegest u target multi species too. Fishing the dam area blind is going to be frustrating 4ya.
Look for bait fish to find game fish ;-)
