I was at my brothers house in Bayou Vista this weekend and we were riding around Sunday morning and we decided to ride out to Halls Bayou. I hadn't been there since the mid sixties. The old boat lift is gone, and it looks like they moved the boat ramp from where it was back then. Other than that I don't recognize any thing else. Thought about carring my boat down this summer and ride out of there to the bay. We did this alot when I was a kid. We always rented a boat & motor there and it seems we always had to be pulled back in. The mouth was always tricky to get in & out,is it still like that? There is a store there can you buy bait there. Back then we use to get our bait from a barge in the bay. Is the bayou very deep or would I have problems with a 17' whaler? Thanks alot for any info. Larry S

I fish the mouth of Halls lake where it opens up into Chocolate Bay heavily in the spring and fall. There are 2 cuts there, the Narrows, the north ones about a foot deep and the more eastern one is a foot to two foot deep with the left side the deepest if you are looking into halls lake. I had some good bird action in there this fall, the south shoreline is 1 to 2 ft deep with sand, mud, and shell. You catch alot of freshwater fish closer to the 2004 bridge.
